As he is talking he would be right there with Ali in greatness, however when you talk ignorant, live crazy and have **** accusations against you and lawsuits time and time again you become the villain and the person we love to hate.
31 is not young for a natural 130-135 lbs fighter, not old in this day and age, but not young, Broner took a lot of damage against Maidana, a fair bit against Pacquiao, he hasn't been active, and he lacks of discipline outside of the ring, the Pacquiao fight was his best opportunity, and he didn't try his best, I don't think he'll fight for a world title again.
I think Broner's rhetoric and arrogance has gotten him into a lot of trouble over the years. At 31, he is still in his prime. However his prime is contingent on consistency, training and frequency of fighting. I know he isn't the likeable guy in the public but I want to see how his next fight goes. I like to see people overcome the odds and reach their potential.
That maidana ass whooping was like 6 ass whooping in one, seeing him carried to his dressing room with a broken jaw, that was a career changing beating
Tyson, Trinidad, Benitez, Fernando Vargas, all examples of fighters better than Broner who were clearly past their prime younger than 31.
It's funny when you think about it, 31 is the pivot point for a boxer's prime for many guys. The guys you mentioned were well past it at 31. Two other additions that began their slide at 31: DeLahoy and Sugar Ray Leonard.
