if u don't take it seriously u could end up giving it to someone who gets hit very hard, hospitals are full of people like that, watch the interviews of these people, they caught it when they let their guard down and people in or too close & boom they can't breathe

Massive amounts of old people and sick people are dying faster than usual thanks to COVID. Should the world be up in arms over it ?

Athletes who get COVID is hardly newsworthy since said athlete will 100 % get over it with no lasting issues.

It's a reasonable debate to have... I mean how much are hundreds of thousands (or millions globally) of older people really worth? Worth a few minor inconveniences like mask wearing? Worth nothing at all? Worth locking down the entire country down for 6 months?

Each society has to decide for itself I guess, and it's gonna depend a lot upon the individual circumstances of the countries in question; their social security systems, levels of savings, the robustness of the healthcare system, the levels of poverty and so on... and of course social qualities, some societies simply value the elderly more than others or are more altruistic in general whilst some might be more individualistic.

Old people die. That's how life works. Does it really matter how ?

On a family level, no family wants a family member to die. We all want our old assed relatives to live forever (regardless of their inability to take care of themselves).

On a societal level, imho, massive amounts of old people dying should not shut down a city, much less the world.
