For casuals who believed Loma got beaten

Loma lost but Lopez did not win the fight by taking it to the champion at all. He played defensively the entire fight and when Loma finally opened up, he was tagging Lopez at will with combinations.
Lopez would lose if they rematched nearly immediately. If they ever do rematch again in the future, Loma's going to be over the hill and it wouldn't be the same than if he rematched him now.
Then when Lopez wins the rematch, his fans (I'm his fan but won't be saying this),will be saying see, Lopez clearly won the first and Loma would have never won a rematch. Oh well, that's the sport for you.
Lopez fought the fight that he had to and beat Loma. Why go into Loma's strength? The speed, size, power and counterpunching ability made Loma think too much for the first 7 rounds.Comment

I agree Loma was hesitant early on because of the power. It made it difficult for him to open up in fear of the return fire. Okay, np. Yet still, Lopez didn't really do much to take advantage of that other than keep Loma at bay. Very Pac-Fraud Jr. ish. Yet in the end, Loma left the lasting impression of who did more damage and was taking over the fight. The first portion of a fight should indicate what the entire fight is about but unfortunately since you bank rds where neither guy looked impressive, that already puts you in a lead.
If I was a judge that scored based on who impressed or looked more dominant at the end of the fight regardless of rds, I would have given it to Loma easily. He looked to figure Teo out and the first half of a fight is not the only rounds you should be winning when the fight is 12rds. Lopez was getting whacked in the second half. Regardless, Loma would have required a knockout to beat Lopez that night. They weren't going to give him a decision no matter what.Comment

Sources: 130-pound champion Miguel Berchelt is now being advised by Guadalupe Valencia, whose stable includes Ryan Garcia, Luis Nery, Jessie Vargas & Frank Sanchez. Berchelt fights Oscar Valdez on ESPN on Feb. 20. Will be interesting to see if he remains with Top Rank afterward

This is where I saw it.
Anyway, yeah, Tank, Stevenson, Loma, Davis, Diaz... Lots of good options.Comment

I dont know why fans are getting so upset though. Loma either DREW 6-6 or LOST 5-7. It was that close because of Loma slow start.
It was a VERY SIMILAR FIGHT as Canelo v GGG 1. Canelo/Loma won tight rounds but in most rounds they were inactive - ALTHOUGH VERY GOOD DEFENSIVELY. Nonetheless its hard to give Canelo/Loma rounds when they arent punching back and ALWAYS retreating...NOT that they were scared but it LOOKS LIKE GGG/Teofimo were MOVING THEM BACK...wasnt really the case
Sad we wont get a rematch and I'd bet Loma if they fought again but Teo is gonna take that decision and run. By NO MEANS a bad decision but he clearly isnt confident in winning again or else he'd do the rematchLast edited by #1PaperChamp; 01-20-2021, 09:39 AM.Comment

I picked Loma to win. I like Loma and don't like Lopez and was rooting for Loma to win but he lost. Loma lost the first 7 rounds by not throwing many punches at all. Loma won rounds 8,9,10 and 11 but that was not enough to keep him from losing. Lopez was the rightful winner in my opinion. Maybe Lopez could have won the fight if he had started trying to win rounds and thrown more punches from the first round onward but we will never know.Comment
