Comments Thread For: Fury-Joshua: WBO To Conditionally Approve Undisputed Championship

Whatever lingering issues remain in putting together an undisputed heavyweight championship are no longer bound to sanctioning body obligations. A major hurdle was cleared in efforts to move forward with a titanic showdown between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua. The highly anticipated heavyweight clash will come with all major titles at stake, including the World Boxing Organization who is no longer calling for a mandatory title defense, sources with intimate knowledge of the development have informed BoxingScene.com.

Excellent news, glad Usyk saw sense to step aside temporarily for this. This is the biggest fight in boxing and it has to happen now, it can't afford to marinate

"According to sources, the respective teams for Fury and Joshua have been notified under no uncertain terms that the winner of their forthcoming bout must face whomever prevails between Usyk and Joyce (12-0, 11KOs). That bout must take place within 180 days following the completion of the Usyk-Joyce interim title fight."

          Fantastic!

So if nobody drags their feet and the initial fights happen before the summer is out, we will see Usyk vs Joyce for the WBO interim and AJ vs Fury for the undisputed. Then the winner of AJ/Fury will have to relinquish the WBO belt, elevating the winner of Usyk/Joyce to full WBO champ. Fury and AJ will then have their rematch, and the winner of that will fight the winner of Usyk/Joyce to reunify all 4 championship belts.

What an awesome series of match-ups, and what a fantastic year of HW action coming up!

It still sounds pretty ****** that it takes 4 belts and a 'lineal' title to make up an undisputed champion

We always think we have a great run of fights set up... very rarely plays out like that.

Agree. At this rate 50 years from now, it will be impossible to unify due to there being a dozen or so belts.

I think this time is going to be different. There's too much money being thrown at Fury and AJ for either of them to back away. Usyk and Joyce would probably fight for free, just for the chance to break through to that level themselves.
