My take is a little off topic but this is why I don't automatically give credit to fighters who have never seen the 13th, 14th, and 15th round as to how they would do against guys who trained for and went 15 rounds. If fights back in the day had been scheduled for 12 rounds, fighters would have had to start earlier. Leonard stopped Hearns late and maybe if it was a 12 rounder, Leonard would have opened up around the 6th, or 7th round when he had Hearns hurt and finished him before the 12th round. Now when they fought a second time, Leonard had Hearns badly hurt late. He needed the 3 extra rounds. If that fight had been scheduled for 15 rounds, Leonard's stamina would have taken over and he would have stopped Hearns again. Ultimately, I wish 15 rounds returned.
Fights that would have different outcomes if 15 rounds

I agree but the thing I always question about these sort of theories is Bradley was way more aggressive in the 12th cause he figured it was the last round. Had the fight been scheduled for 15 he probably remains more cautious until the 15th. Same with Martinez-Chavez Jr.
I was rooting for Provodnikov that night he just ran out of time, another minute in the 12th round and I think he could’ve forced the stoppage.Comment

If you know the fight is 15 rounds going into it then you build your strategy around that. Changes the fight entirely. Thread is about if “surprise! You get an extra 3 rounds!” LolComment

It was changed because 12 rounds can fit into a 60 minute tv block.Do people really believe the real reason round count was dropped down to 12 from 15 was due to boxer health and safety? If that was really the truth and based on what we know today about CTE wouldn't the argument be made to cut the rounds down to only 5 or so now?
I have to assume there were some other motivations for the change.Comment

Yeah, I had it 11-0 for Sergio lolThis is the first semi-recent fight that came to mind for me cuz I was thinking that in real time...if only JCC Jr had more time.
That was probably his exact peak & best night even doe I think he was down 0-11 going into that last round.
Idk about the OP suggestion of Broner vs Maidana. I definitely agree Broner was still putting up a fight & seemed to have overcome his worst moments that night & had some of his own moments even if not as impressive as Maidana's moments, but I think Maidana was up so much that 9 minutes wasn't gonna change a whole lot & Maidana is a tough mfer who never got stopped. I don't think Broner woulda been that guy to stop him with more time on that night.Comment

A lot of fights that involves a limited relentless pressure fighter who uses his size and slowly wears you down versus a fighter who has superior speed and athleticism but doesnt know how to slow down the pace and keep the pressure guy off him.
A guy like Badou Jack would have a much better resume.Comment

I dig Badou + he seems like a great dude in the boxing sphere, but I kinda feel if fights were 15 rounds he'd still take half of those 15 rounds to start to really get to work. But yea in theory I agree, but in practice idk.A lot of fights that involves a limited relentless pressure fighter who uses his size and slowly wears you down versus a fighter who has superior speed and athleticism but doesnt know how to slow down the pace and keep the pressure guy off him.
