Canelo Alvarez has a resume as robust and resounding as any fighter in the sport. The four-division champion Alvarez (54-1-2, 36 KOs) is fresh off a unanimous decision victory over Callum Smith, winning the WBC, WBA and Ring Magazine super middleweight championship in the process.

He's #1, but at some point it would serve him to appease some of the haters and at least fight Mall Charlo. If he would have gone for undisputed MW, I think he would have at least converted 60%+ of his haters and that would have probably been the best thing for his legacy.

He still has time to fight Mall so let's ee what happens. I can realistically see that fight happening within the next two years.

Pound for pound isn’t just about accomplishments. Skill for skill, Crawford looks to be better than canelo in every way other than maybe head movement. With level of competition, canelo has the bigger names but when you really look at it, canelos recent resume is overrated. Smith wasn’t that good as he really lost to Ryder, Kovalev was clearly no longer Kovalev, canelos performance vs Jacobs looked very similar to gabe rosados performance vs Jacobs in their last fight, canelo got some help from judges vs ggg twice who was in his mid to late 30s, canelo got what should’ve been a close decision win instead if a wide one against a very small and much older cotto. This isn’t exactly a record comparable to the 4 kings of the 80s fighting each other. It’s not even better than the fights Oscar, Mosley, Trinidad and Vargas had with each other 20 years ago, other than Trinidad and Mosley missing each other.

Clenelos problem is his accomplishments are attached to 5 gift wins, slow and weak feather fist Fielding and Smith, then weak and shot kovalev🥊

Why are Canelo and his team so obsessed with these P4P rankings!? It's subjective anyway, so what's the fuss?

This is what happens when you cherry pick. Your legacy is damaged forever.

Imagine if Canelo had wrested the belt from the legitimate 154 champion (Demetrius Andrade), instead of waiting until Liam Smith had it.

Or fought GGG when he was still prime at 160, instead of pretending he could only fight at 155.

Or becoming undisputed at 160 and fighting, once again, Demetrius Andrade.

Or fighting the 175 lineal champion, Arthur Beterbiev, instead of insisting to fight a tired, weight-drained Kovalev.

If not for the positive PED test, I’d think canelo would be the clear #1 p4p.

Canelo also has the option to pick whoever he wants to fight. I think a lot of guys could build strong resumes if they had Canelo's drawing power.
