Prolly because the rest of the division is relatively crap and has been since the Super Six tourney about 10 years ago. To be SMW king doesn't really mean much atm.
Fans should be pushing for Canelo vs Beterbiev instead of this kind of gripe.

Do any sanctioning bodies, or even say, a biased magazine owned by a certain promotional outfit recognize the robbery narrative? Or is it just the results on paper we all have to accept?

No it's not a good reason but it's of such little consequence for a division that barely smolders. Canelo is EASILY the top fighter at 168 imo so it hardly matters what ranking bodies have. You can name someone who can beat him?
