Vasyl Lomachenko Admits Lopez Sr's Mind Games is Why There Was No Rematch Clause

Unbelievable, but Lomachenko admits in this interview that Lopez Sr was saying before the fight that he was scared to lose so he would include a rematch clause so in response, he (Lomachenko) told his manager Egis that he didn't really care if there's a rematch clause and it can be taken out.

Lomachenko was the clear A side here and fighters in his position almost always have a rematch clause. This has nothing about being "scared" but it is just the smart thing to do. Loamchenko proved his incompetence here by letting a man get in his head and as a result taking the rematch clause out of the contract. So if he never gets a rematch it will be on him and only him. Both father and son just mentally ripped him apart before the fight and it showed with how he came out in the early going.

Lomachenko still has a lot of big fights he can take and he can return to the top but this is something that is going to forever going to haunt him.

I don't know how to embed off my phone but part two of the interview right here:

    https://********/RxTgwNtQI1w

Really solid interview. Lomachenko is a pretty funny guy and you could tell he feels comfortable talking to the interviewer.

He states that Garcia is talking out his a$$ saying he had a war with Lomachenko in sparring and says he has it on video to show Garcia was just "retreating" all session. Lomachenko is picking Campbell to beat Garcia.

He rates Tank the best over Lopez/Garcia/Haney. Would love to fight him next or soon.

Doesn't believe a rematch with Lopez is possible as long as the pandemic is going on.

Lopez has more power than Linares but it is nothing crazy.

Overall, I'd say the interviews are nice listens and he addresses his comments on the judges being "loaded" and how he actually scored the fight. Also addresses his comment regarding being injury free before the fight even though he was taking shots to his shoulder and had to notify TR, VADA and the commission.

Brash New York brovado was something he never seen before & took him out his element.

The rematch clause isn't really the issue imo. I like that attitude of being willing to fight without a rematch clause or being willing to give up some of your purse to make the fight happen. The issue was not doing enough in the early early rounds to win the fight, regardless of the reasons. That's what Loma will be mad about deep down.

He didn't give up any of his purse to make the fight happen.

And it was a HUGE mistake not putting the rematch clause in the contract. That's business 101 in boxing. Lomachenko wouldn't need to beg for a rematch or wish Lopez gives him and if he just originally put it in the contract.

Looking back, really no opponent has gone after Lomachenko like that. They are all for the must part respectful towards him. There’s definitely some truth to what you said.

According to the promoter of the fight:

“He is voluntarily under these circumstances reduced his (own) purse in order to get the fight done.”

And he wouldn't have to beg for a rematch if he'd won the fight and he wouldn't have another L on his record. Having a rematch clause doesn't guarantee you'll win the rematch.

I guarantee you Loma is more p**$ed off about the fact that he lost than he is about the fact that he doesn't have a rematch clause.

Many, many fights have happened without rematch clauses.

Great interview by Loma, deep insights at some points. Didn't know Loma respected Gervonta that much. He rates him #1 among the young guns at the division, same thing I always say here. Loma says, "Davis is a beast." He wants to fight him.

The chick interviewer is hot. She's lucky Loma isn't Pulev!

Which was debunked by team Lopez saying they didn't take any of Lomachenko's purse and wouldn't ever do that.

Anyways, you put the rematch clause in for a variety of reasons. Watch his interview, he said it was his plan to start a little slow and not get hit with any big shots and didn't trust his shoulder holding up if he went for it early on. More reason to have a rematch clause when he's gone into fights in the post injured.

Yeah, she used to do stuff with ESNEWS or Fighthype in the past. She also knows her stuff and has good follow ups. Legit boxing fan it seems like.
