Two months ago while working out at the police gym, I turned one of the tv’s on and watched the first two Randall vs Chavez fights on and hit the heavy bag, ran the treadmill, and lifted weights on a damn hard circuit while being motivated by those fights. Very sad. That man was an old Skool throwback fighter. I recall him not getting that first shot until he had 40+ fights and a loss or two on his record.....unheard of these days for someone like that to get a shot at the p4p #1.
Sad that he fought on that long and I knew before I read it that he must have been suffering from a TBI and neuro damage to have died that young. This is an example of why o am such an advocate of championship fighters making good money while they can so they don’t have to lose 10+ straightComment

RIP to The Surgeon Frankie Randall, was unlucky not to get the nod in the rematch as well.
Unfortunately suffered with head trauma, a poignant example of a fighter going on way too long. I remember he was absolutely done against Margarito and must’ve fought another 10-15 times after that.
RIP...Comment

It's brutal what this sport can do to you. Fighters need to have good people around them that can stress to them when they need to hang it up. Allowing some of the damaged vets to become punching bags is shameful.Comment

Yeah same. Chavez always got favourable cards, mainly cause the crowd would go crazy whenever he threw. Same thing happened to Sweet Pea a couple of fights before.Comment

Don King (the Reverend Sultan from the movie Great White Hype lol) was excellent as woo’ing judges for favourable decisions regarding his fighters. JC Superstar was the business back in the early 90s after the Tyson hiatus. One got the sense that whether it was Whitaker, Taylor, or Randall that good old flame head as going to spend a little extra to wine and dine the judges....had to keep that money train movingComment
