Watch Berto try it. Dude would just get leveled. Floyd could essentially parry you with his forarm/elbow and shoulder or angle his arm so it’s almost slide/deflect upwards, not being hit with the top knuckles.

I remember I think it was Duran or Chavez who said what they would do against Floyd is actually deliberately target his arms and shoulders and make him take actual punishment there.

There is a difference between being specifically hit in the arm and blocking a punch with your arm not meant for it.

You can see that Callum thought he was blocking but Canelo was hitting him full on top of the knuckles to the biceps, etc. Similar to thinking you’re checking a leg kick but it was a calf kick
I fully understand what you're saying, but trust me, it still hurts like hell.

I want to refer you to the Cotto and the first Maidana fight.

Those guys tried the exact tactic Duran was talking about, and both guys hit very hard.

It didn't work. Floyd's arms were just fine and he was throwing hard, fast, and snappy punches up until the twelfth round.

Did you see the 12 round when Smith tried to throw his money punch, the counter left hook but his arm hurt so much and he winced while throwing it.

Right after that failed attempt, Smith acknowledge that Alvarez injured his arm and they both laughed at the situation.

That's a Boxing IQ right there...he took away his money punch.

Nah, It happened in round 10 and he wasn’t doing it intentionally. However he was trying to hit him around the shoulders just like Reynoso mentioned in the corner. rewatched the fight and in round 10 Canelo landed two or three solid right hooks on the left arm and you can see the swelling begin to develop.

I remember Roy doing this to someone. I think it was Harding and they eventually stopped the fight. He couldn't land clean on dude so he ****ed his arm up lol.

Im pretty sure in Texas and Nevada boxers are allowed to have stacked gloves.
                    SO....
                    Good plan by Canelo.

Great tactic from Canelo. Much props to him for finding a way to break him down. He was in with a much taller guy, so he decided to hit what he could hit.

A few people have asked why people didn't do this to Floyd. I'm sure many boxers have tried, but people don't realize Floyd's defense was as much about his feet and spacing as it was with the shoulder roll. He wasn't going to sit there and let you target one area all night.
