Smith is a solid opponent by anyone’s standards. Is he elite? Not from what we have seen so far, but he’s a world champ and not yet had the chance to prove he’s top level and now he gets his chance

There was a time when Canelo wasn’t elite. There was a time when he was getting rocked by Cotto’s brother and there a time he was a world champ and not seen as a top fighter.

So let’s see what Smith can do. You can’t knock anyone for fighting a world champ like Smith. So what if he had a close fight with Ryder?

Marvin Hagler lost to 2 fairly average fighters before he was known as a great fighter.
The context is GGG diehards downplaying Smith. Isn’t that ironic? It’s not about how challenging Smith is...if Smith beat Ryder, how is that Canelo’s fault? If two customers argue over a product, like a PS5 and brawl, with security separating them with a big drama show, and another customer snatches the PS5, isn’t that the way it goes?

Smith is definitely a very credible opponent.
My guess is that whoever's downplaying him as anything other than that is basing it on his bad showing against Ryder and the fact Canelo is on a different level than most fighters.

So in this scenario Smith is snatching the PS5? Or Canelo? Who are the 2 customers?

Very good fight, from what we know anyway. It’s just very unlike Canelo to take a fight against an opponent he hasn’t handicapped.

Smith and Ryder were fighting over the PS5. Canelo, the last customer, doesn’t care about their controversy, and is aiming for that PS5 too

Very good point. In order for Canelo to not be the favorite he’d have to fight someone like Beterbiev. It’s crazy that he’d be favored over every single 168lber and most 175lbers

GGG fans have no business talking about Canelo's choice of opponents. None. At this point, Canelo can fight a donkey for all I care. His legacy is already cemented.

Canelo is fighting proven champs with belts and with huge physical advantages.

GGG is fighting no bodies that clearly have no skills or advantages.

At the end of the day it's clear who is trying to make more entertaining fights. If GGG fans enjoy watching GGG kick cans around then that's perfectly fine. Why should we care what they want to spend their time and money on.

I don't know why but there is a little pattern with euro fighters that like to pick on the weak and think they are the best. GGG making 21 title defense against 0 opposition or Loma beating up little kids in the amateurs because he was too scared to go pro. It's so cringing, but to each their own, I guess haha.

I know what you mean. I watched that and thought no way he beats Canelo. But I think the Smith whi beat Groves can do better than Kovalev. Callum doesn't know what it is to lose. He'll do well,I'm certain about it.
