Comments Thread For: Callum Smith: I'm Not Rocky Fielding; He Was Weakest Option When Canelo Picked Him

SAN ANTONIO Callum Smith doesn't consider Canelo Alvarez a legitimate four-division champion. The unbeaten Brit admires Alvarez's ambition, which led the Mexican superstar to move all the way up to light heavyweight to challenge Sergey Kovalev late last year. But unless Alvarez can conquer him Saturday night at Alamodome, Smith will look at Alvarez as an illegitimate super middleweight champion.

Smith has the same style and weaknesses as Fielding.

Imagine if Canelo got to Smith before Ryder showed him up, THEN went to Kovalev. The forum would’ve been losing their minds. Canelo just has that style and ability to beat all the bigger dudes who don’t box and move. It actually favours him to be the bendy slippery little guy.

Canelo showed more ambition by fighting kovalev than Smith has done. Since winning the title Smith has done very little apart from wait for this fight.

One fight with huge height difference...if smith could fight only half than canelo can he should dominate.

I am rooting for Smith, but yeah, the resume there is pretty thin.
