I think he took the first 3-4 rounds just through sheer workrate. Floyd did not make boxing look especially good that night tbh, no none boxer has any right to last 10 ****ing rounds against a pro at that level, let alone win a few. Floyd would be getting his head elbowed through the canvas within a minute in MMA.
Macgregor isnt a boxer yet is a real fighter who happened fight under boxing rules by doing such fought very unorthodox so was akward to figure out though add in that mayweather knew by conor performances he most likely staunches u early or gas out half way if going the distance. So whether the storm for 6 let em tire out then take over. Another reason ppl forget for mayweather success which is why mcgregor had succees in fight mcgregor held reach advantange n slight height. Norm mayweather holds atleast a reach advantage over opps
Maybe Conor did win more rounds because mayweather carried him and let him win rounds. mayweather did not take him seriously and did not bother to train for him. mayweather could have knocked him out at any time. he let it go a while to give the fans a show. Pac and Canelo would both murder Conor under boxing rules because they would not carry him as mayweather did. Don try to make Conor a formidable boxer because he isn't. He is a great cage fighter though.
Honestly I think it was a combination of Floyd's age (old), Conor's age (prime), Conor's unorthodox style (lefty, different/special type of fighter anyway, also no tape on him to study as a boxer), and Conor's size (probably the biggest guy Floyd ever fought). Floyd didn't know what he was looking at the first 3 rounds and was being cautious and trying to find an opening.
Rounds 4-9 he was the better boxer but you could argue Conor won 2 of those rounds. He certainly won the first 3 and at least 1 more. He was in the fight on the cards, or should have been.
I don't buy the angle that Floyd carried him. I think he was legitimately surprised and cautious early, and also probably knew Conor would struggle with stamina late. He didn't want to do much early because Conor's best chance to win, because of his sh.it stamina ironically, was hurting Floyd early.
Needless to say - I was shocked to see Conor McGregor outboxing Floyd 3-0 in the first 3 rounds. One of the strangest things I've ever seen in the ring, regardless of what the reason was.
