I’m open to your point but not with dumb points like that

Joshua has a wider resume of the 2nd tier names, but Fury has the better wins of the top tier. There’s no right or wrong in what you prioritise
It's not rewarding failure. It's rewarding success. Ruiz has one of the best wins of active heavyweights. He deservedly beat a long reigning unified champion. He gets ranked highly for that.

If Joshua didn't rematch, and Fury beat Ruiz next, would you recognise the win? Of course you would.

Yes but that’s not the issue. The issue is ranking Joshua higher because of that Ruiz win

This is the logic that I was trying to be convinced of:

Joshua gets credit for beating no.1 Ruiz, because Ruiz is no.1 for beating Joshua. This is a cyclical argument

Yet if Joshua did what he was supposed to and beat Ruiz the first time, he wouldn’t have a no.1 win on the resume, and that is the outcome we eventually got in Ruiz 2. So the only different variable here is Joshua losing, not winning. This is rewarding failure

End of the day one was violently beaten and the other hasn't been beaten.

I usually go with Fury but given the Joshua fan base keeps crying over Fury and Wilder fans agreeing I'll say something pro Joshua here.

I do think it is interesting Fury's important wins all come with a point deduction where as I don't believe AJ has ever lost a point. In terms of clean wins Joshua is leagues beyond Fury.

Fury is without a doubt a dirty fighter and the Joshua Protection goons should put a little more focus on that. Especially if they're going to be making threads crying about Wilder fans teaming up with Fury fans.

I'm not a glovegate guy, I'm not even a rules guy. I don't mind a bit of dirty in there. I think it's a valuable skill that fans should value. Kid McCoy is an ATG because he was one of the best dirty fighters to ever fight. So I personally don't hardly give a **** if he cheats, bends rules, whatever, so long as he gets away with a win. However, plenty of folks put value in a clean victory.

Fury did beat Wlad when Wlad was on top. He also punched Wlad in the back of the head often enough to lose a point. Fury did KO Wilder. He also hit Wilder after a break so often he was deducted a point. In the rematch with McDermott, the one Fury 'proves' he deserved his first win over John, Fury was deducted a point for holding. If Fury might lose a fight he'll go dirty before he goes down.

Fury makes up ****** bull**** his fans love to repeat. He was too busy crying to fight Wlad without drugs. He was simply slapping Wilder...like that's not illegal. It were bore meat. So on. It's not hard to dig into Fury and get Wilder's remaining fans to say yep, good dig. Especially if you're clean as ****, did not just get KO'd by him, and own the three belts he ditched because he's scared of Wlad.

On top of this, the Wlad win is overrated while Joshua's is under. Yeah, Fury got to Wlad first but clearly Wlad was expecting an easy night. The Wlad that came for Joshua came to redeem himself. He was definitely more willing to take risks. Fury just twisted a pansy Wlad used to getting nods in boring matches. Which is why his best win is Wilder but his best showing is the draw.

No matter how you cut it, Fury cheated to win. He didn't cheat enough to have his win taken from him but he did cheat to win in every single important match he's ever had regardless of where he was at in his career. Joshua is the clean champion.

Losing to Ruiz damaged Joshua's standing more than the rematch win elevated his standing.

He got a loss on his record. He dropped from 1 to 2 in the overall across those fights. Placed behind a guy who, at that point, had one significant win in his career and none since his return from retirement.

Ruiz proved himself a good fighter. He beat a long standing champion. So, yes, Joshua beat a highly ranked fighter in the rematch.

There are always reasons to claim that someone shouldn't be ranked so high after they lose. See Ruiz, Parker, Wilder...

The fact is, they were ranked that high until they were beaten.

I have no issue in ranking Ruiz that way

More so an issue in claiming Joshua beat a rank 1 fighter, without the additional qualifier. That would be disingenuous

You're right that it's not even close. Fury has taken on tough tests, real challenges, on the road. AJ has had everything his way, with propped up opponents. AJ got KOed by Ruiz. Comparing him to Fury or Wilder at this time is a poor take.
