There is definitely sexism in sports not just boxing. Even women don't enjoy women's sports is maybe the biggest problem doe.
And boxing being more of a niche sport these days makes it harder on female fighters. There is definitely more money & more upside in MMA than in boxing. There has been one female PPV in boxing history & it did ~100k buys. There has been numerous females in MMA that have A sided MMA PPV events that have done multiples of 100k. I get this move by Shields & surprised it wasn't made sooner.Comment

And as I understand it she'll still be competing in boxing here & there so I don't believe she's leaving boxing 100%. Believe she's still booked for a January fight currently.
I know there are some combat sports fans who can't get into females fighting at all. Fair play to them.
But I'd argue most MMA fans just appreciate the fight itself more than they are turning off & on for specific fights.
And as a fan of both sports I definitely get more into female MMA fights than female boxing matches.
Granted there is still almost as much chance a fight goes to decision in a 5 minute round MMA bout as boxing bout, but it's still much more entertaining cuz of how evenly matched the fights tend to be.
Personally I think one of the biggest problems with boxing across the board is fights aren't evenly matched enough. Everything is about building a guy into a prospect, than into a contender, than into a champion, than into a superstar & you use clever matchmaking all the way up to the highest level you can reach without taking anything worse than a 70/30 your favor opponent.Comment

In Latin America boxing is still huge and in Honduras where Lopez had already fought as an Olympian, he’s Canelo status god.
Your comment is the one that makes no sense.Comment

People like Shields just dont get that it's an entertainment sport, and womens boxing isn't entertainment to most people .That's why Katie Taylor is inserted into a big fight card, because she cant sell on her own.The real sexism is making people like her fighter of the year. They couldn't beat a southern area champion, but make more money.Thats sexist then.Comment
