A man shouldn’t have to lose his eye for our entertainment. Say he goes the full 12 but loses his eye in the process. What good is it if he has to retire as a result of it?

'DDD' Daniel Dubois, is clearly inexperience and was poorly prepared for Joe. Dubois, should of spit his mouth-guard or called for a time-out, in the tenth round vs. Joyce -- like A.J does whenever he is in trouble.

Dubois needs to train with Rob McCracken or Ricky Hatton to learn these 'veteran-survival-tactics', and make sure that his next fight is in Saudi Arabia in a 22 foot-ring, if his next opponent is a pressure fighter.

        I agree with Joshua.

Sometimes it is not your night and it is a good thing that Dubois was aware enough to realize that. Is the image of hum voluntary ending the fight damaging to his image...of course. My biggest takeaway is the fact that his corner or the doctor did not stop it instead. They should have spared him from having to do it.

A broken orbital socket is very severe injury and there are so many nerves connected to it....I think people don’t really understand how much can be generated through that and yes he did give up but the kid could have gone blind so was he right quitting .....well he went 10 rounds and he did fight with that injury for over 5 rounds so it was not quitting instantly.
But this will affect his career now and I think I saw enough of him to know he won’t become a force in the heavyweights

That was a damn good example from AJ!

Tapping out doesn't at all mean quitting, it means that my adrenaline amped up opponent is liable to kill me or maim me if I let him.

It means my opponent won't necessarily be preoccupied with my health concerns quite like I am - especially if I don't inform him.

And it means, If my opponent happens to be waxing the floor with me, he'll no doubt be more concerned with satisfying his ego, hearing the roar of the crowd - while understandably in trance like pro concentration & form - waiting ONLY for the ref to stop the beat down.

One can only imagine what Daniel was going thru with that trauma right next to his brain - no one on these forums can relate.....just criticize.

Agreed. Dubois isn’t overly skilled and he lacks experience. His eye was completely shut. He took a real hard jab onto it, and it was enough for him. He knew it would only get worse after that. I know stopping from a jab looks bad, but under the circumstances he’d have only taken worse after that. Yeah he’d have shown heart to continue, but without the skill and experience a comeback was not in the cards. He just needs to own it. Know that he needs to improve past someone being able to close his eye up just from jabs. Joyce is a big dude with a good hard jab for sure. Dubois is twelve years younger and without the amateur pedigree. He needs to learn from this, build, gain more experience. Not put himself in the same situation. I don’t see huge things from Dubois, but at least he’s in a position to try and improve, without hopefully serious injury. Give up? Retire? Make a comeback?

I just hope he recovers and then has a long, healthy career with a few signature wins. The only way he will shut these predatory trolls down. Not that it matters- those labeling him a "quitter" will just move on to attack the man hood of someone else.

I know this will get no response cause it will be too logical and not a post to slyly bash a fighter... But it's clear to me that barely any posters on here have ever fought in the ring.

Going out on your shield doesn't refer to having broken bones and nerve damage... If you've had either you'd know the pain alone is unbearable, let alone with a 17 stone monster constantly punching it.

Confirmation of the injury he suffered is confirmation he has massive heart.

I think Dubois is limited and has suffered from Warren's trusty blueprint of feeding a fighter cans and clicking the WBO rankings... But he's clearly got heart and is a good kid. He should join matchroom ASAP, get himself built up properly and not be under pressure to be an AJ clone...

AJ the serial cheater, gets a tea break mid round when ever he wants.

AJ threshold for quitting is much lower than Dubois . At least Dubois had a genuine physical injury.
