He took a knee knowing there would be alot of keyboard warriors bagging him out, on and offline.
The dudes young and can recover, regroup and take another shot at things. It shows maturity to have played it out as he did.

I do think his corner should have stopped it, even though he was doing well on the scorecards. I couldnt hear him, but his train er was really having to motivate him even before the eye went bad.

DD reminds me of Seth Mitchell. Raw. He would have to have more than 3 or 4 fights, then thrown into some BS WBO eliminator or something to lose again.

I thought he had more of an amateur career than he actually did. Id read something that he'd passed up a chance to try for the Olympics, so I guess I assumed wrong.

He is a full level better than Seth Mitchell ever was. If he was Seth Mitchell, Joyce would have bounced him around like a beach ball after he shot his load in the early rounds.

How many times did Wlad fail before he got it right? This guy could go on to the undisputed champion down the line.

This loss could be a blessing in disguise as it will force him to slow down the express train to the top and work on his craft more.

I doubt this surgeon would recommend anyone get punched in the face for a living. Yet someone his recommendation to not get punched in the face for a living is relevant when we want to excuse a quitter. Dubois is a quitter. He can’t get a doctors note for quitting. This is boxing, not grade school.

Yeah that was a kind of daft series of comments right there. Life (hopefully) exists after the boxing career. Vision with only one eye means NO depth perception. Walk around for an hour, in public, outside, with one eye covered. Not easy. I don't blame Dubois at all... and hope he recovers fully. I wanted Joyce to win, yes, but I don't want anyone to have permanent injuries from a fight.
Exactly its common sense. I wanted Joyce to win also but I dont want a boxer with so much promise to have his career shortened at such a young age. That dude is an idiot.

              This is laughable.
That dude is an idiot who most likely never fought before.

Dubois was two rounds away from putting himself second in line in the WBO rankings. He was ahead. His corner didn’t stop it, the referee didn’t stop it, the doctor didn’t say anything.

                  He quit.

He should have protected the eye and gone for the win.

I feel like I’m just comparing him to every boxer out there.

I’ve seen boxers try to push on through horrific injuries. They’re supposed to be blood and guts warriors. The referee, doctors and cornermen are supposed to be the protectors of life.

Dubois was the only one who thought his life and career was at stake if he continued. I don’t think it was at stake. I think he had bad defense and was tired of getting punched by a big man.
No Ali very clearly said he didn't know it was broken and he would've stopped to prevent getting it broken more. When the interviewer questioned him he asked "do you think I'm a fool,to keep being hit on a broken jaw, and hes punches breaking it more?".Only Dubois knows how that eye felt.Boxers may box through all sorts, dont know how many boxed through a broken eye socket. But I know the greatest heavy I ever saw knew better than what you expect a guy to give. And still be called a warrior.

And had he lasted 2 more rounds, like somebody mentioned here...he would have come out the winner
and his career prospects looking up and moving forward.

Even switching up a a stance or moving around to get that eye out of Joyce's jab would have
done the job. Dubois was pressing and landing the more eye-catching punches.

The judges would have favoured him...
TBH this is what kinda irks me. I watched that fight and literally saw the presenters pretend that Joyce's amazing jab and ring control and evasion of Dubois right hand was not happening.

Honestly, I am beginning to think Dubois may indeed be ****ed. Not because of him quitting (which made complete sense) but due to the fact that I think we now know just how much of the game was in his favour. He's always had favourable judges, favourable opponents and favourable coverage. Joyce was the first decent opponent he took on and Joyce beat him handily. Had him looking completely lost from the 4th round. I initially thought Dubois was a strong prospect a year ago but now I just feel duped. He was heavily touted after the Gorman fight, but then Gorman hasn't looking particularly impressive himself.
