I for one was very disrespectful about Daniel. Now in hindsight I realise that. Regardless I owe him an apology for the fact he took those shots on his eye. I never did. It’s easy for me too say I’d do this or that. I hope his confidence does recover eventually. I saw Eddie sort of try to cast doubt on this injury, don’t really know if that is fair, but his eye does look totally different to how Kell brooks eyes looked both times he had his. But I don’t know I’ve had eyes closed like his lots of times, most recently a year ago falling off a bike coming over a Fly over type bridge and landed face first like an idiot lol. But shut my eye broken nose lacerations etc. And a torn rotator cuff where my arm hit the floor and bounced back up! But was told my eye sockets held up! Some The F’ing Hell managed to stay conscious the whole time and walk myself into A&E. Was very lucky my fall was roughly 400Metres from the Hull Royal Infirmary!!

These are professional boxers, they signed up for that.
I doubt this surgeon would recommend anyone get punched in the face for a living.
Yet someone his recommendation to not get punched in the face for a living is relevant when we want to excuse a quitter.
Dubois is a quitter. He can’t get a doctors note for quitting. This is boxing, not grade school.

Yes by definition he quit, he made a conscious decision not to continue. The confusion stems from the perception that quitting is inherently a bad thing. Under these circumstances I believe he made the correct decision on a number of fronts and shouldn't face criticism from the likes of folk who've never come close to that level of personal adversity.
I remember earlier in his career Vitali Klitschko 'quitting' due to a shoulder injury. His rationale was the same as DDD's, he didn't want to risk any further damage that could cost him his career. Tell me, who associates Vitali Klitschko with the typical stereotype of being a 'quitter?' It's just good common sense not to mention part of our natural survival instinct to save ourselves for another day.
Isn't it obvious, there's a clear distinction between mentally throwing the towel in when it gets too tough and being physically injured to the same point of failure.

I can’t criticize Adolf Hitler because I was never elected the leader of a nation.
OR CAN I?
LOL

One thing that gets overlooked is Dubois would have been easily winning the fight on cards.
And had he lasted 2 more rounds, like somebody mentioned here...he would have come out the winner
and his career prospects looking up and moving forward.
Even switching up a a stance or moving around to get that eye out of Joyce's jab would have
done the job. Dubois was pressing and landing the more eye-catching punches.
The judges would have favoured him...
