Are Boxers Today Punching Much Harder Than Past?

How many past greats have broken orbital bones?

    These days

    Margarito
    Kell Brook
    Dubois
    Inoue
Oscar also got his eye socket fractured against Pac

That is just within the last 3 years or so.

WTF is going on with all these broken eye sockets?

      Yes... they do hit harder.

Better nutrition, training, sports science, medical technology, etc.

We're creating an army of super athletes and breaking records in all sports.

I think its more the easy access to social media and finding out this aftermath information

Im sure theres been plenty fractured orbital bones in the sport that just hasnt come to light, probably not the best thing to let future opponanta know aswell

            Of course.

Put it this way, In pretty much literally every other sport where you can have a definitive measurement, whether it be time or distance, it shows athletes now are significantly better in the past

so it would be very naive to think that boxers are not much fitter and hitting much harder than in the past. boxing is not special. athletes are just getting better, it’s just boxing has no definitive measurement like other sports where it can be proven.

I was actually thinking along the same lines as the OP here earlier today, that broken orbital bones seem to be a more frequent occurance recently and what could be the cause of it in fighters today vs older fighters, but you may have pointed out something here I just completely blanked on, it could just as easily be that we get updates more often now on these injuries sustained in fights, whereas in the 60s (just a decade I picked at random as an example) we could have had just as many orbital bones broken that just didn't get reported on

I don't think so. A lot of young fighters these days don't even step into their punches. Like someone else said this era of boxers just has terrible fundamentals, they aren't moving their heads or learning proper footwork.

                    No.

Jesse Owen's was running 10.2/3 on mud tracks, wearing heavy leather running shoes while training and living off food-stamps.

Tyson Fury for example? Has access to all the best sports nutrition and sport science, even still he is 'Out of condition compared to the past heavyweights' I don't think athletes have evolved as much as people claim etc
