Been picking Joyce on here since the fight was confirmed
Really have no idea how Dubois was the favourite. It was purely based on unwarranted hype from knocking out journeymen.
It may be cliche but there really is levels to boxing and you have to be moved sensibly.
You don’t go from 7 amateur fights and a dozen pro fights against stiffs to fighting Joe Joyce, a top amateur and a guy who was beating guys like Jennings after 7 pro fights or whatever.
Warren usually has a good track record of building fighters but he got this one wrong.
I wouldn’t be surprised if BT sport were pushing the fight on to Warren because it’s not like the stable is stacked and they need big fights.
in my opinion he did exactly the right thing, hes 23 year old, gtfoh with 'he should have let himself get ko'd' what difference does it make he would (or should cause it looks like the frank warren robbery was on) have lost either way and that eye injury was gruesome and a solid straight from joe could have ended his career before its even got going.
Fact is the kid wasnt prepared for it at all mentally or physically, fed a load of bums then had a huge step up in class, exactly the same thing happened with bakole.
Hes got a long career ahead of him and now he knows where he went wrong, you could still see a lot of talent there offensively but hes falllen in love with his power thinking as soon as he lands clean joyce was gonna go like the rest of them, you could see the panic on his face early on when he realised joe wasnt going anywhere. Its no surprise his defence was non existent when hes never needed to use it, warrens got to take the blame for thinking that fight was a good idea with out dubois gradually moving up in class before hand.
Put yourself in his shoes, 23 years old, no challenges whatsoever as a pro, everyone hyping you through the roof and now you are running on empty with some horrible 18 stone + heavyweight who isnt going anywhere, plodding forward and turning your face into a butchers block
people talking are talking about him like hes in his mid 30s ffs, no wonder fighters dont usually want to take risky fights early on cause they get crucified if they lose.
funny the same people hyping him are now calling him a hype job themselves, problem is that the public build these guys up just to knock them down.
I completely agree. Dubois did some good things in there, and he is very young ... too young for such a solid, strong, tree-trunk of a veteran (with only 10 Pro fights but a wealth of experience overall).
Joyce is easy to underrate. He's kinda slow, doesn't have good right hand mobility it seemed, and has pourous defense. He can be hit. He also is in great overall shape to go the distance, and never stops with that jab ... at odd times, surprising angles, and a lot of compact power. He may surprise a few more before he's done.
Dubois will be back if he wants. His corner should have stopped it sooner. Makes no sense for a very young warrior to have his eye messed up for the rest of his career (life?) because you've met the wrong match. Fans out for blood with "die on your shield" mentality would take one of those solid punches to the eye, and be out of there, LoL. Dubois still has a lot of promise. Good luck in the future.
LoL, a young fighter gets beat, who had been being touted as the next big thing, fully arrived ... and it's the promoters fault? If Liston had stopped Ali in the first fight you would have been saying nonsense like this?
Dubois wanted the fight, and thought he was ready. He did some good things, but it didn't work out. It may have been too early to fight a vet like Joyce, but he prepared and was willing. It's not the promoters fault it didn't work out.
Quitting isn't as big a deal as people think, stop it. Guy is 23 years old and has his whole career ahead of him to learn. Take the L, improve, and come back stronger. Joyce is not some cab driver, he's a legit fighter and Dubois wasn't ready, it happens. Why should Dubois keep fighting and risk long term injury or worse just to please some clown no nothing boxing fans?
They've said he had a broken orbital bone. You can imagine the pain he went through eating jabs in that same spot over and over. And he kept going.
They've also said he had some nerve damage. I can't imagine how that might have felt, but I'm assuming on that last punch he felt something that seemed very serious. Maybe through his eye, maybe through his brain.
As Wilder has shown, there's nothing impressive about the 'go out on your shield' mentality. Even warriors should know there's a point where is not worth it.
I'm guessing he felt something that was beyond extreme pain - because he would have been in extreme pain with the break for multiple rounds and kept going. If you think you're about to lose your sight, your brain function, or your life, then get out of there. As a boxing fan I don't need to see any of those things happen in the ring.

Indeed
But it’s the fight game and if you’re willing to quit the first time things get rough, then it doesn’t bode well for the future. Regardless of what the injury was. Fighters have carried on with it.
I know it’s a serious injury and in terms of his health of course it’s the right thing to not fight on like that, but there is some top fighters that would never go on one knee and be counted out like that, regardless of what the injury is.
So, I’m not going to slate him for quitting, I just think it’s probably some evidence that he may not have the minerals when it gets tough, but that is what it is. some people do and some people don’t.
If you quit once, you will do it again usually.
Maybe he will prove everyone wrong and come back and have a great career and show a lot of heart...but as it stands, I think we can all agree he’s had one test and the first time he faced adversity and he took himself out of the fight.
I agree he had a good reason to quit. Hes 22; he must have felt his nerve damaged or something. This wasnt a world title fight nor was dubois defending a title hence he didnt have to risk damaging his eye forever like kell brook. Hes 22 all he has is boxing; hes not got anything on the side or anything he can bounce back on or sells real estate lol.
Better to not risk your eye fr the only thing you have to make money. Dubois will surely be a world champ in 2-3 years
daniel dubious is to much of a coward to ever become champion of anything and you know kid
