SHAWN PORTER’S SURPRISING TAKE ON CRAWFORD-SPENCE, IF IT EVER HAPPENS

Although Porter (31-3-1, 17 knockouts) is the WBO No. 1-contender, he doesn’t feel a fight with Crawford is imminent and believes he’ll likely go in a different direction.

“I’m going to see how things shake out with Errol Spence Jr. and Danny Garcia (on December 5),” Porter said. “I think that is more than likely going to happen.

“I don’t foresee a fight between myself and Terence Crawford anytime soon. I don’t think that’s the route Top Rank wants to go, but I am the mandatory for the WBO title.”

The fight everyone wants to see at welterweight, and one of the most anticipated in all of boxing, is a meeting between Crawford and IBF/WBC counterpart Spence Jr.

Porter would like to see his two rivals meet, but feels one has a clear advantage.

“I think that’s a fight Terence Crawford would win,” said the recently turned 33-year-old. “I think Terence Crawford has got more in his arsenal than Errol Spence Jr. I think he’s a better athlete and a better fighter. I think he’s got more dog and more fight in him. I can’t see Terence Crawford stopping Errol Spence Jr. I do see it being a very good fight.”

However, he would be only too happy to trade blows with Spence Jr. in a rematch or against Crawford for the first time.

“I would love a fight with either guy,” he said. “We’ve already seen what happens with myself and Errol Spence Jr. I think a fight with Terence Crawford would be extremely exciting as well.

“I’m a hybrid, I can box and punch and with my movement that would be hard even for someone like Terence Crawford to manage. He’s been able to manage every guy he’s been in the ring with to this point, but I think there’s some things I could present that would make it a very hard night for him.”

I've been taking Crawford's side for a while because I felt the PBC side had been freezing him out. However, if he doesn't get the Pacquiao fight next I expect him to try and fight the winner of Spence vs Garcia or Shawn Porter.

If Crawford fought Porter and beat him it seems to me he wouldn't get any credit so what's the point. Everybody in the division including Spence calls out Pac but Bud gets slammed for doing it. That makes zero sense to me.

Porter is the way to go, if no Pacquiao fight, he can't ask for 50/50, he's the mandatory, so at worst it goes to purse bids. Everything Arum and Crawford want: resume, low purse, and an attraction! If they give him the same money they gave Khan, I think the deal gets done!

... I don't think that there will be big money fights in 2121... no gateway money, no PPVs... and Bud is getting old...

                You're crazy.

If Crawford beat Porter CLEANLY (i.e. no low blows, no holding and hitting, etc), CLEARLY (i.e. not a debatable draw) and without trigger ref assistance, it would instantly warrant 50/50 for Spence.

                Why?

Because Porter has never been beaten with all three of the above being true.

Ugas: could have been a draw

Thurman: could have been a draw

Spence: could have been a draw (had he not gotten dropped)

                Brook: excessive holding

If Crawford did to PRIME Porter what he just did to washed Kell Brook, he's instantly in the conversation. Period.

Hell, if Crawford stopped Porter, even if it took 11 rounds to do it, he's still in the conversation.

Nah everyone got slammed for calling out Manny. Maybe except for Mikey since he is a non factor at 147

Crawford needs a publicist badly. He says so many things that the media can twist.

Crawford can't keep on waiting, and hoping on a Manny Pacquiao fight being made. Manny hasn't fought in 1 year, 4 months, and he's 42 years old. There's no telling when, or if he'll ever fight again, let alone who he'd sign to fight. You can't stop calling out the top guy's in your division. It's not begging them to fight you, It's challenging them to fight you for supremacy in the welterweight division. Shawn Porter would be a good fight to take, so would Yordanis Ugas, Errol Spence, or Danny Garcia. Those are the fights that Bob Arum, or another high profile promoter has to be able to secure for you. I mean he has to fight these top fighters in 2021, and 2022, before he gets much older.
