AK had a 3 fight deal
after almost 2 yrs out post canelo, amir took an easy fight...then a tougher test vs sam vargas where he actually struggled and got dropped. He was under heavy pressure from sky sports pundits to fight kell next, which even he said he would do.
the problem here was, in truth..when guys like froch put it on him and said 'he needs the payday' amir was offered Crawford for $5m and fked those guys off. He got the last laugh at that given he got paid as much as he'd make from a kell brook fight, without giving brook what he wanted.
don't forget that this whole rivalry was kickstarted after ******/pakistani grooming gangs ingnited A LOT of hate against AK which brook then tapped into. brook didnt gain fans, he merely gained edl/racists as his new fans. froch was another big matchroom/sky guy who is a supporter of edl.
when amir had this lot hating on him, it made sense why amir originally left the uk for america...which is why he proved he doesnt need sky/uk fans etc, when he has some degree of legitimacy in the US. Granted, he doesnt have a lot of it, but his marketing in the past paid off with the Canelo and Crawford fights. He then got $7m for billy dib.

don't forget Amir khan vs crawford was aired by BT sports who btw, actually promoted it and gave AK a lot more respect than sky sports pundits did. there seemed to be a lot of antagonism on sky against amir, like 'youre not one of our boys, brook is, fight him or fk off' and his attitude was more like 'yeh i dont need you guys anyway'.
