You post some good stuff which I like to read, but that picture you have is repellant. He happens to be my pet aversion, with his mono-tonal, artificial pitch, constructed voice. I have to shut off the sound until he finishes. I hate fakery of any kind, his in particular. Jimmy Lennon, varies his pitch, gradually brings up the level of intensity and in my opinion, is by far the best announcer.

Your guy -with his numerous facelifts, and fake complexion...Ugh. Just my opinion.

In the old days, a guy with a megaphone would do the announcing in a normal, everyday voice. it was completely unimportant as a job, being merely to introduce the fighters, the visiting champions, the weights etc. Much more honest and normal.

After all, the REAL attractions were the fights themselves.

You make some good points and lately I've been thinking of changing it honestly but not sure what to. I had a Gatti black and white portrait before. I'll figure it out since you put so much effort into your post, I just needed some gentle bullying into changing it haha.

I wouldn't say he's my guy I just picked out of personal nostalgia and I like how he made a fortune off being an outsider in the sport while not exploiting fighters. But the whole trademarked phrase is pretty damn corny and yes he does exude an heir of fakeness which doesn't really suit my posting style. Every announcer has some degree of affection I think, but Lennon certainly is much classier as his nickname would suggest. Speaking of megaphone or dodgy old PA system what do you think of that dreadlocked guy, David Diamante who does the throw back of repeating the last name twice?

Seems to me doing most boxing stuff other than sparring would be boring as ****.

There you go. I'm sure everyone will thank you for no longer having to look at a decrepit Michael Buffer since I post fairly frequently. Bivol is my guy.

Oh my goodness...not Gatti.... How about someone of impeccable and irreproachable character and morality. Like Young Stribling, the best example I can think of. You should look him up, it will astonish you, for a boxer, even for a normal human being. Or Benny Leonard.

I've always liked Col. Bob Sheridan.

As a matter of fact I haven't seen him, but the point you mention repeating the boxers' names is very correct, the RIGHT way to do it. I recall in my amateur days this was exactly how the announcer would do it. Announce the weight class, both boxer's names, the No. of rounds, etc, and just before his exit would point to each corner and repeat each boxer's name.

I'm not gonna front like I know those 2 names so that would make me a phony choosing them for an avatar. Now I have to buff up on my history.

Plus I already whipped up this Dmitry Bivol avatar since I was sick of looking at that crusty old bastard too.

I do have love for the Colonel though. Classic voice.

I totally agree with you about the Colonel, He's had a storybook life, and I always thought his commentary was spot on. He was able to pick the winner half way through the fight. I'm talking about years ago. I recall seeing him commenting whilst his doctor was in the seat behind him checking his blood pressure, the very day he had a heart attack and insisted on leaving the hospital to do the fight.

You SHOULD look up young Stribling, it was my intention that you should take a little boxing history.. He's a forgotten character....a role model of a human being. And don't forget he was in the sordid boxing game.
