As much as I like Eddie, I feel his ego clouds the judgement a bit even though its an innovative and potentially game-changing thinking in a long term. I just doubt it will take off. The objective should be getting rid of all these alphabet bodies or merging of all these bodies into one. But since nobody would want to lose their shares of pie, we'll continue with this nonsense of having 4 boxers calling themselves world champions.

He could have two if he would make the Smith vs. Saunders fight! I can't see why he has not? I don't have a problem with the 4 titles (I don't count IBO, barely recognize WBO) but why the multiple belts in one weight class by the same organization? The WBA is the worst, and the WBC just damaged their brand with the "Franchise" Champion! No Bueno!

Unless they both want to fight each other, for the money Hearn thinks they are worth, it won't happen and there's nothing he can do to make it happen. Unlike Dana at the UFC, Eddie can't order guys like Smith and BJS to fight each other, then block them from fighting somebody else with another promoter, if they don't do as he says.

Imo, Eddie and Dana are going to have the same success with this "UFC model for boxing" as Haymon had with his PBC belts idea,.

Promoters can put a stop to this by not allowing their fighters to fight for secondary belts. Every time that sanctioning bodies try to offer secondary belts and other crap belts, promoters need to tell them no thanks and only fight for primary belts, that will only be the first step. Once you eliminate these secondary belts, then you could work on condensing the sanctioning bodies, where they become one body, ( that will be a big task and maybe won't work but need to work towards that goal) more realistic is to eliminate one or 2 bodies and only have 2 or three like it was back in the day before the WBO came along. Again this will be a tall order and probably won't happen but if the promoters organize together they could put pressure on the sanctioning bodies to make a deal, if they don't want to play ball, Promoters and the boxing industry can create one belt, one champion motto and just kick all the bodies to the curve, but I don't think that will ever happen because promoters themselves use these secondary belts as leverage so they can say they have a champion on their stable.

The belts aren't the problem...it is the fact that TV, websites, etc. put stock in them and talk about them. Networks could solve the problem pretty easily...if each of them would refuse to televise bouts that didn't involve top 20 (ranked by an independent board like TRBR). When you start staging bouts and have to look in the honest-to-god top 20 (or top 10 if the fighter is moving up), the bouts start improving in quality and it is easier to match the best fighters together. You don't need a belt...you need a ranking. If all of the articles on here ignored the belts and put their ranking, it would reduce the value of the belt and eventually make it the trinket that it is.
