Comments Thread For: Teofimo Lopez Shocked The World, But Not Himself or His Team

Teofimo Lopez shocked the boxing world Saturday night by doing what few people would have thought could be done: Win a decision over one of the best fighters in boxing and the most decorated amateur in the sport.

Lopez just did the “impossible” in beating Lomachenko by decision. He’s gotta be the favorite against anyone going forward imo. It’s like somebody climbing Mount Everest only to have people doubting if he could climb a smaller mountain.

As a Loma fan, it was a pain to watch the first 6 rounds. Absolutely no action from Loma, he was so scared...and 12th almost got his head knocked.. Well done Lopez, but Josh Taylor would be a tougher match...

            Teo!!!!!!

            Ooooooowweeeeeeeeee

Great fight, Lopez swept the first 6 rounds and IMO made 7/8 competitive with loma, he didn’t back down when loma woke up, he would still throw those counter uppercuts

I loved his disciplined turn arounds in the first half of the fight, he seemed laser focused on his gameplan

I’m a Teo fan and rooted for him, but full disclosure, I thought loma would win, thought he would find a way, but oh well I’m happy regardless

I don’t wanna hear about size, Rigondeaux moved up for loma, and loma found a way with other fighters in that weight class, let’s just applaud Teo for job well done, it wasn’t perfect, he had some flaws in the later rounds but that 12th round he secured the win

NO REMATCH CLAUSE, go back and watch post fight interviews, teo said they didn’t offer him a rematch clause and had language in the contract that if he lost, his pay would take hits, and he was frustrated about that, he can move up to 140, he’s 23 and only getting bigger, if it’s not for Ryan or Haney, why stay at 135? No rematch time to move on

Loma? Idk, he was singing tank’s name before, but now do you wanna see that immediately next? Maybe, think it’s still a decent match up, but unfortunately with the sport of boxing, when folks lose, some lackluster gets dusted off of match ups (we all know wilder/joshua) loma 32, figure out what weight u wanna campaign in and if you and arum are in agreement about your future, I damn sure don’t see showtime or fox willing to do a joint ppv with espn or network show where it’s tank vs loma, not after this loss, tank now has “an escape” to say loma fight is insignificant now, and maybe it is? Idk

I’m happy for Teo, we all should be, even tho his loudmouth dad was annoying, they backed it up

Loma and arum arrogance stopped them from doing a rematch clause, smmfh

I'm about to ruffle some feathers, but I'm about to bring race into the Lomachenko hype. I hate that so many people overrated Lomachenko. To me he was always a very good fighter, but I never saw anything that prompted me to believe that he was the best boxer ever. I hate that he was marketed as such. Could you call him the most winningest boxer ever? Yes, but that's it. I believe he was overhyped because he is white. How could anyone call him the best ever....when there were fighters with legitimate pro careers like Ali, Leonard, Chavez, Robinson, Pacquiao, Tyson, Louis, Marciano, Morales/Barrera/Marquez, etc before him?
Some of these greats have very distinguishable fights in their careers - even Gatti has. The only classic fight Loma had been involved in, he just lost. I never agreed with him being listed number 1, P4P. I believe Canelo had a better argument for that seed even before the Lopez matchup. I believe Loma was there for taking against Lopez or Davis - whoever got to him first. It just so happened it was a confident and mentally ready Lopez. A lot of people need to ask themselves this question: If Loma was Black, would he have been rated so high - especially with no classic/legendary victories that define careers?

Giving away rounds and expecting your opponent to tire is a dangerous strategy. Lopez did tire and Loma stepped it up but Teo had enough to hold on for the win. I saw two different fights on Saturday. A first half give away and a more typical Loma type fight in the second half. Credit to the 23 year old but this was about the over confidence of Lomachenko and his team.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but blacks have one of the biggest hype to paper tiger quotients in boxing.

Literally 75% of the pbc roster is exposed overhyped byproduct.

Guys like Berto, Broner, Russell, Hurd, A. Stevenson, Alexander, Wilder, Tank, Farmer, Colbert, Haney all were/are literally hyped up to be legends.

Lol.. I called this one.. About time too! I've been on a losing streak.. I picked Wilder over Fury.. Whyte over povetkin.. Lost a pretty penny too.. But this one definitely made up for it.. With a little profit!
