The rounds Loma won 8-11 were much more solid than Lopez's 1-7.

Lopez won the points. He did not win the fight. What Loma did 8-11 was far superior to what Lopez did 1-7.

What Lopez managed to land in those rounds were very few body shots when Loma was against the ropes, while missing over 80% of his shots... He didn't hurt or slow Loma down at all, as can be seen to how Loma lit the fire in the 2nd half. He simply managed to keep Loma out of range and remain hesitant. Sure he won the points in those rounds for activity, but Loma was displaying some master defense. If it was another fighter doing such defense, they would get praise from the same people who are dissing Loma.

What Loma did after the 7th though, in 8 through 11, was a beatdown. He started throwing combos at Lopez's head from all angles. He made Lopez confused and keep his hands down. He beat Lopez in a far superior fashion in those rounds.

Lopez did explode in the 12th though, and Loma became careless enough, and both traded some solid shots. I would give 12 to Lopez.

But in rounds 1 through 11, Lopez won the points while Loma definitely won the fight.

    This needs a rematch...

Your breakdown of the fight is realistic. I never thought of a rematch but essentially it should happen, cause hey? Loma feels he won and 2 he gave Lopez the chance, why not return it? The only question is what would be different?

They actually landed about equal number of power punches in 8-11 and Loma did nothing in the first 6 rounds making it very easy to score.

Nope. Lopez's rounds were far clearer. Loma benefitted from the pity effect, where a fighter is so far behind they start giving him any round he's competitive in.

Different fight if Loma fought in just a couple in the early rds.

I think Lopez had more points where he looked vulnerable than Loma. But still gotta score it round by round. I enjoyed the fight and would enjoy a rematch but after those scorecards and everything else (Lopez moving up soon etc), I don't see it happening.

I agree. And it was a bonehead move not having a rematch clause vs a guy u make a strategy to be cautious against for half the fight.

And what did Lopez really land in the first half besides a few body shots per round? Loma was landing 4-5 punches to Lopez's 7-8...

So really, the first half was all points for Lopez but zero damage to either fighter.

ring generalship shown in the early rounds has a big impact and you cannot lose that. 2nd half is hard to comeback from behind unless you got a hail mary punch. and i the score cards were insane.. but still the right man wins.
