Would Wilder have developed more had he taken “better” matchups?

You know other than Ortiz 1 and 2 his entire reign as champ as completely laughable and when he ran into someone like Fury, his one dimensional style was quickly figured out and dismantled in both of their fights. Wilder vs AJ and Wilder vs Klitschko are two matchups that I feel like he should’ve taken because maybe fighting them early in his reign would’ve caused him to evolve into a better fighter instead of what did happen. Even losing to them is better than fighting bums and not changing anything for years.

His team got a scare in his 13th fight . I believe that was the point of play it safe as long as they can and go the easy routes to a title . But a fighter doesn’t progress without proper match making . Had he fought better guys he would have been a better fighter for sure but there would also be a better chance he takes a loss but it would have made him better . Would they be able to market Wilder without an undefeated record though ? Probably not .

No, when you watch his fights in the Olympics he was actually technically better and even his fights before the Ortiz 1 fight he was actually letting his hands go but started falling in love with his power and he stopped throwing combinations!

          I think so

Same could be said of Kell Brook

Let hope Crawford is still the goods when he steps up

            Not necessarily.

You learn in the ring but you learn far more in the gym. He started off on the wrong foot and that's that. He can improve but he will never just erase who he is and become something entirely different. Your first few years boxing are pretty important imo.

Imagine if Emanuel Steward was still around early on in Wilder’s career

Wilder is built with the same qualities as Hearns

Jeez, every day with the endless Wilder threads.

Look, the guy is what he is, a guy with basketball level athleticism and an insane right hand.

He was always gonna be that to some extent.

The only thing that stunted his growth was him falling in love with his right hand so he stopped trying to develop his jab and other tools.

But again, with his athleticism and right hand, he KO's just about anybody not named Fury, especially if he's not carrying all that weight he was carrying in the 2nd fight.

                He shouldn't fight above 220lbs.

                  He probably gets exposed sooner.

He would have lost multiple times by now.
