Comments Thread For: Arum: Would've Been Unseemly To Ask People To Spend $70 or $80 On Loma-Lopez

There were times during negotiations for the Vasiliy Lomachenko-Teofimo Lopez fight that ESPN executives considered its streaming and pay-per-view platforms as options. They ultimately afforded Bob Arum's Top Rank Inc. enough money in the form of a license fee to televise it live on ESPN on October 17. Airing their lightweight title unification fight on a basic cable channel that has approximately 83 million subscribers obviously will make it available to many more viewers than if it were on pay-per-view for at least $70 or on ESPN+, the network's $6-per-month streaming service.

It's not going to bring fans "back" because nobody really cares about these two outside of the boxing bubble.

        Tyson/Jones? That would draw fans.

All bc of Tyson. His person extends beyond that of being a boxer. Most casual people nowadays don't even really know who RJJ is. At least the younger casuals know who Lopez is somewhat due to his nonsensical Fortnite celebrations being that it's still one of the hottest games around. Aside it from it being a top-notch matchup, hearing that this "Fortnite kid" is facing arguably the best fighter in the world should bring alot of casual attention to this one.

Bob is mostly one step ahead of the opposition and he is here. He is using this as a advertising platform for his future shows. It's called a sprat to catch a mackerel. Even Warren is on it at a smaller level with his free to air Joe Joyce v DDD showdown .Unfortunately Hearn sees this as a smash and grab with a 7/1 on top of the bill ppv followed by a 9/1 on top of the bill ppv .with a fighter just been cleaned out by a 41 year old rematch on a top of the bill ppv thrown in just to finish you off and guarantee he has a good christmas after you've put £60 his way for 3 fights on ppv ,2 which surely don't deserve to be there!
Well done to Bob and Frank for putting on 50/50 fights.
A disgrace from the accountants but this can only be expected such is their story so far.

The DD Joe fight has international appeal, mainly because Joe built a small fan base in America. Maybe not fans, he's too slow, but people know him. Good for Warren, thinking outside the, what the market will bear, box. Business is collapsing and what is needed, is pillars. Good fights at a good price to draw the casuals. Over priced mismatches aren't drawing flies.
