Power Punches would be better labeled as non-jabs or go a lil deeper & label all the punches, uppercut, hook, straight & note head or body. That would detail things better & probably enlighten fans even more on what's impressing the judges.

One thing I'd like to see in the future is a microchip put in gloves that could measure the power of each punch impacting each fighter. That could really give you a good take on who was winning & in theory that could look very video game-ish which I think people would understand better & enjoy.
Great post, some very good ideas.

Would you see any value in a similar system based on using slo-mo replays? Not for scoring fights, but rather for analysis and just for the sake of interest?

These dudes here do that, and whilst I can't actually vouch for the validity of their counts, one of the guys who runs it used to post on here and seemed very sincere about wanting a credible source for punch statistics, although it was a good few years ago since I spoke with him:

Filling out the cards beforehand would suggest that the boxers are told what to do for their rounds? Lol

Obviously you don’t know what you’re looking. It’s not unusual that many of you don’t understand what swing rounds are. A two piece combination to the body an elite defenseman like GGG gets your more points than landing 4 jabs. You’re also not factoring that the judges aren’t balancing points like Pong. Two jabs will never surpass a good hook to the face or body. So again, swing rounds are common practice. The judge has the right just like the fan does.

Microchip in the gloves wouldn’t prove anything because everybody takes a punch differently. The impact measure of a hook to the face and the shoulder giving the same reading would suggest what?

And there you have the logic of a man who tries to skew the judging criteria to suit whatever his fighter is doing. If Canelo lands more jabs? Wow look how effective that jab was. He won the round with it. If Canelo lands more body shots? It's all about the body shots, of course. Everyone knows that. If Canelo avoids more punches, well you have to score defense, you know that.

Point being that when you score a round you are scoring the punches that land and their effectiveness. All the other stuff you mention is just noise. If I land 12 good punches on you and you land 10 good punches on me, I win that round almost every time. Only exception would be if you scored a KD on me, or if your punches were somewhat more effective on a punch by punch basis, and thus you did more 'damage' in the round.
