Because an old Wlad was the best fighter in the division at that point and it was between Fury and Wilder for heavyweight supremacy post-Ortiz 2 and AJ's loss. I still remember loads of people picking Wilder to KO Fury, including me, but we were all very wrong.
It makes him No. 1 for now, even if you don't like that fact. Also that comeback from obesity, drug abuse and mental illnesses in the timeframe he did is impressive without a doubt. I didn't think it was possible for him to recover that well, particularly mentally.
Now AJ stans like to ridicule Fury's off period, but they tend to ignore the very real effects of depression and bipolar. And if you think that's an act, well if Fury were pretending, he's one of the best actors ever because he was notably depressed in simply how he spoke about things. Not to mention I've gone through something similar. Also bipolar people are by nature not the most consistent emotionally, so don't expect consistency from Fury on that front. I have an uncle with bipolar and it's much worse than Fury's, ruined his life completely.
