Does Mayweather VS Paul help or hurt boxing?

It probably does both but it helps more than hurts.
Anyone who thinks this fight or Floyd v Conor hurt the sport needs to realize that DAZN is desperately trying to make a canelo/masvidal fight because the money the networks make from these kinds of events gives them resources to put on the fights and cards that we as fans want and demand. So in that sense it helps.
For traditionalists, Floyd fighting Paul is a sideshow that doesn’t move the sport as a whole forward like say a Floyd v Crawford or Spence fight would because you’d have the old king losing to a potential future king. In that respect you could argue it hurts the sport.
And the latter is basically how I feel as well.
It can be argued no publicity is bad but circus show acts that do nothing to actually truly further the sport and art imo do hurt the sport. I want boxing to be taken more, not less seriously.
Also, as one of Floyd biggest fans, if he isn't going to compete, or work as an analyst or something in that sense relevant, please go away. It's getting cringy that he can't seem to let the spotlight go, and I'd pretty much rather see him cry for attention in other ways, not fighting scrubs who don't deserve to hold his spit bucket and charging money for the farce. Just disappointed this type of nonsense is what Floyd topics have now become.Comment

The others dont generate the publicity in the first place so your theory does not add up, publicity brings attention its up to the others in the sport to climb onto the train as it goes past.
Boxing is a time honored sport that operates inside a business model, without money coming in the sport dies, money needs marketing and publicity, the nature of these circus exhibition bouts is all about money, and Floyd needs an angle to make this BS work and that angle is the guy is over 200lbs while Floyd is 147.
Nah dont hurt the sport at all, if 100 new people started following boxing because of getting into the hype of these things then it helps.Comment

Gain 100 fans while countless thousands begin to question the state of boxing. Doesn’t seem like a great move. The others dont generate the publicity in the first place so your theory does not add up, publicity brings attention its up to the others in the sport to climb onto the train as it goes past.

Solid post as always.

I don’t know if it’s a cry for attention or anything like that.
I think what a lot of us forget is Floyd has been ahead of the curve with his use of social media. This gives him an additional revenue stream a lot of boxers just don’t have.
As I’ve thought about it, Floyd isn’t getting the “fights” with Paul or Conor so much because he is a great fighter but because he maintains an abnormally large following on social media. Don’t underestimate how valuable that is when it comes to advertisers and marketing.
Where his camera greed and narcissism comes in handy is his willingness to go out and “sell” these events.
I have no desire to see him in with Paul anymore than I did Tenshin.
Not going to lie though, going out like this is better than watching former old greats getting bludgeoned until they retire.Comment

Its a retired fighter participating in an exhibition. People really need to let go of their grudge/obsession with Mayweather.Comment

Agree. Boxing fans should not be surprised of this. Floyd was doing this since 2010 and just making it so much obvious now.Comment

I can understand your take on it, but i dont feel the sport gained much from the ksi logan paul circus. The others dont generate the publicity in the first place so your theory does not add up, publicity brings attention its up to the others in the sport to climb onto the train as it goes past.

Alot of this feels like Floyd not letting his grip go on being the sports biggest star, don't forget he tried to make the Mcgreggor fight on the same night as canelo ggg 1.
Only my opinion but I think the media within the sport should put focus on the current stars. If Floyd comes back against a top 5 guy then fine but good fights will go under the radar when circus fights like this take placeComment
