Comments Thread For: Bob Arum: My Matchmaker Told Me Joe Smith Would Beat Beterbiev

Bob Arum always believed Joe Smith Jr. was capable of performing against a top opponent the way he defeated Eleider Alvarez last month. Now that Smith has knocked out Alvarez, Arum "absolutely" has preliminary plans to match Smith against Artur Beterbiev in 2021. Long Island's Smith (26-3, 21 KOs) and Russia's Beterbiev (15-0, 15 KOs) must win another fight apiece to remain on that collision course, but Beterbiev-Smith has become one of the most intriguing matchups within the light heavyweight division.

I don't think Joe would have a hope in hell, but I'd love to see him try. Certainly ain't fight that could fail to deliver in terms of entertainment value no matter what the result.

Brad's good, man, but he's no Bruce Trampler.

I think Smith could catch Beterbiev and knock him out.

He’s not a cutie boxer and he does have a weak defense.

I would expect Beterbiev to run through Smith without issue though.

I think Beterbiev is tougher than Smith, but I'd be rooting for Smith.

It’s an interesting match. Smith has the power to end worlds and has a iron chin. Beterbiev has been knocked down before so it’s closer then people say.

I agree with your statement. Goodman is ok, but Bruce Trampler has been playing matchmaker for a long damn time.
On to the fight; I think anything could happen in the first 6-8 rounds, a ko either way, after 8 Beterbeiv would pull it off. In my humble opinion.
