Yes but UFC isn't a sport, it's a promotion. It's basically the MMA (the sport) equivalent to one of the major sanctioning bodies. The only difference between UFC and one of the major sanctioning bodies is...UFC is the organisation that's universally considered the pinnacle of the sport. There's probably as many different promotions within MMA than there is sanctioning bodies in boxing.

For reference, the Ring's champion is Callum Smith, and then the top ten are Benavidez, Plant, Dirrell, Canelo, Saunders, Truax, Ryder, Chudinov, Lemieux and Jacobs in that order. Would you confidently pick Sergio to beat any one of them at his age?

I could beat my neighbor in a street fight and get a WBA ranking.

I’m just in complete disbelief at this ridiculous decision. The WBA is destroying the sport it’s supposed to support. Disgusting man. For me the WBO and IBF are the only credible organizations left, although I wouldn’t say they’re perfect either. Being a boxing fan is both the best and worst thing in the world. I’m tired of the bs but I could never give up on this sport. I love it with all my heart but all these sanctioning bodies and promotions that wreak havoc on the sport just drive people away. You wanna know why the sport isn’t as big in the mainstream anymore for the most part? Because of **** like this smh.

Haha. True. Or you could get the WBC "Neighborhood" belt with your street name spelled out in it in ***els. Provided you pay the sanctioning fees of course...

I don't think the number of sanctioning bodies is as much of a problem as the fact that they are so damn corrupt.

They are all trying to eke out as much money as they possibly can. To do this they rank unworthy fighters in lofty positions, issue multiple belts to multiple champions in a single weight class and enforce/don't enforce their own policies to suit their interests.

Luckily for them, they are all thoroughly incompetent and corrupt, so one sanction body never really gains dominance over the others (not do they care). Also lucky for them, there is no real oversight from an international commission or from the countries in which they are headquartered.

I don't think the UFC model is either realistic or is the answer. A model similar to FIFA would probably also have similar corruption as the soccer organization.

To be honest, not sure what the best solution is...

What will they come up with next?

Will they gift Martinez the WBA Super Duper Regular belt?

How about the WBA interim silver champion belt?

But wait there’s more, what if they give Sergio the all exclusive, WBA Diamond Platinum belt?

Why does UFC get mentioned in so many boxing threads?

Last I remember in boxing you don’t fight with the nuts of another man on your face.

Are you losers on Dana whites payroll?

Do y’all binge watch the ultimate fighter with bon bons and Ben n Jerry’s?

Boxing is the greatest sport on earth and is worth more than all your pathetic keyboard warrior lives put together.
