rematch... on his toes... classic Mayweather... no " controversy "
go watch his footwork in both fightsLast edited by SugarAnt05; 09-01-2020, 10:32 AM.

That's just Maidana's style. He fights aggressively. Also Floyd may have said some things during the promotional buildup that Maidana didn't like so it's possible he tried to put a little mustard on his shots...🤷*♂️

Maidana made huge improvements under Garcia and wasn't the same fighter that lost to Alexander.
Broner was hailed as the next floyd, he wasn't considered a bust until years later. It was a great win.
Floyd made adjustments but struggled early against a Maidana that was far more intelligent and flavored than the plodder many paint him as.
I don't really agree with much of that
Alexander absolutely schooled Maidana, he shut him out, that fight was not close
there was a noticeable difference in class between Alexander and Maidana... and Mayweather is waaaaay better than Alexander
of course he came on under Garcia, but they only had 2 years together... Maidana was essentially the same fighter, just a little improved and a little more well-rounded
Maidana fought Lopez, Broner, then Mayweather... immediately following Lopez, NOBODY suggested that Maidana could be a suitable opponent for Mayweather, and NOBODY would have given him a snowballs chance in hell of winning...
Maidana was a cherry-pick... there were 8 welterweights ranked higher than Maidana in 2014, and Mayweather was also the JMW champion... he could have fought anyone
and I remember the climate very clearly, because I was interested in who Mayweather was going to fight next... the question about Maidana being a suitable opponent for Mayweather was first asked the same night that Maidana beat Mayweather Jnr... I challenge you to find print mentioning Maidana for Mayweather, before the Broner fight
remember the fan poll that Mayweather ran early 2014... ?
Amir Khan won, and everyone expected Mayweather to fight him... the outrage was hilarious, I remember very clearly
at the time, I thought Khan was a better opponent than Maidana, but I hoped that Floyd would choose someone better than Khan... Maidana had nothing that Mayweather had not already seen, Khan had speed
Maidana was always a fun fighter, but even the Broner win did not really catapult him that highly in fans estimation... he really only became regarded as a top fighter, and genuine contender, after the first Mayweather fight... where Floyd was 8/1 favorite
and there were question marks over Broner, he was not a genuine welter... prior to that fight, Broner jumped straight from lightweight and sc****d past Malignaggi
I agree that Maidana was granite-tough and he had excellent intangibles, and you're right he was more well-rounded under Garcia... but he was only realistically in that fight because Mayweather fought him flat-footed... go watch the tape, Mayweather approached the rematch very differently... he boxed that boy, instead of trying to stay in front of him and walk him down
he fought Cotto the same wayLast edited by aboutfkntime; 09-02-2020, 02:18 AM.

that is what I saw, he fought the fight of his life
Maidana really did his family proud, and he landed another payday as a result
Mayweather fought him more traditionally in the rematch

he also quit against a guy who wasn't as technically demanding as Floyd
anyone checking the win column in that fantasy fight is keen
I think he would have handled Duran, because of style... and I also think he would have beaten Benitez... Leonard is 50/50, although I lean toward SRL... and Hearns would have been a bad matchup for Mayweather... that length + that skill = a nightmare at 147... a pure boxer would have struggled, you needed to be a two-fisted killer like Leonard to have a chance

Meanwhile Floyd is snapping Maidana's head back with counters, landing over 50% of his punches while Maidana only did 22%.
he missed everything, wtf are people watching when boxing is on
volume is not scoring criteria
I think fans just get all hyped up when arms start swinging
