Who will be the face of boxing after Canelo?

What does that have to do with anything? Nationalism is cancerous in sports. IDGAF where a fighter is from.Comment

Vegas wants a relatively good looking Mexican or Mex-American cos thats what brings in the most money, most relaibly, twice a year. The WBC will do their best to oblige by making sure all the likely candidates get the best opportunities (and, if necessary, the right scorecards).
A Latino / hispanic of a different nationality would be a semi-acceptable alternative or if there's really no close competitiors a dude of another ethnicity - probably Black - who can play the role of the guy the paying fans want to see get beat.
I think that pretty much sums up what I like to call the 'Vegas Superstar' model. I don't personally believe it's good for the sport, or at all fair, but it certainly lines some pockets very effectively which is what really drives this ish in the end.
Ryan Garcia is the front runner right now cos of his looks. Even though Vergil Ortiz is the better fighter he's kinda goofy looking so probably won't be groomed quite as hard although the WBC factory always has a number of possiblilities, back-ups and fail-safes in mind.Last edited by Citizen Koba; 08-30-2020, 03:46 AM.Comment

but much of the UFC was Vegas based. Rarely any Mexican stars. Vegas got nothing to do with ''Mexican.'' The BEST in the sport fight in Vegas. It's just that Canelo has had a HUGE following since before 2010.Vegas wants a relatively good looking Mexican or Mex-American cos thats what brings in the most money, most relaibly, twice a year. The GOAL for promoters hyping their players is simply for whatever they can profit off the venue and TICKET PRICING.Comment

Boxing has a much bigger following amongst Mexicans than MMA, man. You know full well I pretty much got the truth of it right above... that's just the way it is. It's not a strategy based on irrational Nationalistic bias it's just what makes the most money for Vegas and a few other key players.but much of the UFC was Vegas based. Rarely any Mexican stars. ..And that ain't a sleight on Mexicans and Mexican fighters... why shouldn't they do the best they can outta the real money guys? But it is a pretty harsh condemnation of the way the sport is run.Last edited by Citizen Koba; 08-30-2020, 03:56 AM.Comment

So what other Mexican fighters are bringing huge gate sales to Vegas? Which promotions? What current promoters before the pandemic we’re staging Mexican fights in Vegas with industry news reporting huge ticket sales?Boxing has a much bigger following amongst Mexicans than MMA, man. The model was really established with DLH, man, passed to Floyd cos there was really no other choice and Arum still had a virtual stranglehold, but it was clear the hope was to do a torch-passing at the ealrliest opportunity. Despite the best efforts of whoever was behind Ross' scorecard it didn't work out however. Mexican or Mexican American fighters bring in the most money to those who count man. That's all it is. C'mon man, you're too bright not to acknowledge the truth of what I'm observing here.
S'all about the $$$s man. You know this.Last edited by Citizen Koba; 08-30-2020, 04:21 AM.Comment
