Larry Merchant was coined Boxing as the “Theater of the unexpected" and was he ever right?.

He is a true warrior and I doubted him in this fight, thought of him as old and shot. What a fighter with a storied career! And it ain't over yet.
Pretty much the last decent guy of the Klitschko era.

Surreal as in beautiful, yes. Surreal as in unbelievable, no.

I picked POEvetkin to win, many posts evidence this.

And I'm also laughing all the way to the bank!

I thought Povetkin was more likely than not to get the stoppage, although I thought it would come in the late rounds.

No disrespect to Whyte, but given Povetkin's pedigree and the fact that his punches are still explosive and powerful, Povetkin is tough cookie. A shell of himself or not, he is still a better fighter than Parker or Chisora. It was a dangerous, dangerous gamble and Povetkin took advantage.

I knew a Povetkin win and even a knockout was totally possible but not when it happened. Can't lie, I was surprised as hell.

Perhaps even more importantly, he has a lot of heart. You'll have to put him out completely because he has a shot in the fight as long as he's concious. He never gives up.

It is what it is, a lucky KO. Rahman - Lennox situation. It is unlikely Sasha repeats it in a rematch.

Whats the over/under we see the rematch clause activated?

Hearn has to have made a killing putting Whyte versus Parker/Rivas/Chisora-level opposition the past few years. Does he cash him in with the rematch, our put it off and have Whyte headline or co-main smaller shows?

I think we'll see it. Whyte who has lost to Povetkin twice probably pulls the same crowd as Whyte who has lost to Povetkin once. He brand is pretty well established.

It was a shock because Povetkin IS shot (or very faded) and was looking 41 and on his way to defeat. Despite the win, he’s really a faded fighter.

But they say the last thing to go is your punch. Also, despite Whyte winning the fight, he was letting Povetkin get inside too much, which you can’t do. Whyte has really slow feet though.

Definitely didn’t think Povetkin was going to land that shot after he was looking like he was about to lose, but you could see he hadn’t stopped trying to get close and land something, which he did.
