That's why in every sport, when a guy is coming back from a long layoff, they always say, "He's in gym shape, but not game shape". There is no substitute for actually playing the game/fighting.

Duran & Leonard would kill your average fighter today because they were used to 15 round fights, didn't get to duck people, and fought more often.

Sugar Ray Leonard retired for like a combined 10 years in the middle of his career before quitting for good and still fought 40 times. Lomachenko may not even get to half of that.
That's the thing, that may be true but it doesn't automatically mean NoBody from today can beat them. Boxing is more global today than back then in many ways & its possible that they wouldn't have adapted the same as today, its just impossible to know for sure. I will agree that they are infinitely tougher than fighters of today but many also were much less disciplined as well because they were alphas where as today many top fighters are devoted to their careers better. Look at Duran as an example & look at Hagler not rematching Leonard, fighters back then made crazy moves a lot of times.

I never said nobody could win from today. Talent is talent and an all-time talented guy from any era can be competitive in any era. Floyd, Manny, Loma, Canelo, etc. . .could fight in any era.

And what do you mean less disciplined?

I'd argue fighting 10 times a year is being more disciplined than just staying in a gym and fighting 2 times a year.

If guys were that dedicated to their craft, they'd fight more.

I explained what I meant the minute I brought up Duran,it should be obvious the minute hes mentioned because he was very poorly disciplined for being among the goat. He lost to Leonard because he blew up to like 200 lbs,& Hagler made a ****** choice not to rematch Leonard,so it shows fighters back then did dumb sht too & poor career choices also.

Oh,I agree with you about choices and yeah, a lot of guys did drink, but I'm saying that fighting only once or twice a year is a "bad choice" if you're trying to be great as well, and a guy like Duran fighting 7 times or something in 1975 may offset the effects of some of his bad habits that he had, whereas a guy today may not drink or smoke, but if he's spending 9-10 months out of the ring, that may be even worst for his performance than if he was drinking and partying, but was more active.

            You sure about that.
