Comments Thread For: Canelo, Smith Among Those Interested in Vacant WBC 168-Pound Title

David Benavidez's latest career hiccup could prove to be a lucrative option for a challenger waiting in the wings. Turkey's Avni Yildirim will patiently wait out a forthcoming ruling to determine his next step in the hunt for the World Boxing Council (WBC) super middleweight title. Yildirim (21-2, 12KOs) was due to next face Benavidez (23-0, 20KOs), who has since been stripped of his title for failure to make weight in an eventual 10th round stoppage win over Alexis Angulo this past Saturday in Uncasville, Connecticut.

Why doesn't everything have to be so hard? Canelo vs. Smith for the WBC title, winner must face Yildrim next, no ifs, ands, or buts! MAN UP!

I'm sure they are but they're not ranked by the WBC so they shouldn't leapfrog fighters who have been working their way into position otherwise what's the point in having rankings right?

I'm tired of the belts circulating among a privileged few who just move up and down and fight immediately for the titles.

Yildrim's number 1 and Abdugofurov's number 2 and silver champ, that's who should be fighting for the vacant strap next.

That’s not how it works. Canelo is the Franchise Champ and has fought at 160-175. It means GBP’s request can easily be justified. Besides, step aside fees are nothing new to the game. GGG took them for Cotto vs Canelo and then Canelo vs Khan. Why wouldn’t Yildirim take a step aside per tradition? Yildirim would be taking the biggest payday off his life just off a step aside fee! Lol

Here we go with the bs. Neither of them were interested in that belt just 5 days ago when it meant fighting benavidez to get it. Now that they can probably get jumped into the wbc rankings and take on some guy named Yildirim, Abdugofurov or Lemieux for that belt.... Ohh we're interested.

Not that he is that deserving of a title shot but Yildirim 'bout to get screwed here (or paid a nice step aside sum)...unless he gets to fight Canelo (or even Callum in the UK) for the actual belt!

PBC fanboys making up false narratives! Guess what! You wanna know why GBP are jumping on it?! Cause Haymon ain’t in the way of Mexican Bidness!!! Haymon failed with Benavidez! Lol. Tough luck! Ask yourselves why BJS, Smith, or Plant weren’t begging for the Benavidez fight! Lol. Canelo been running the game! Glad you feel salty!

You're right, that's not how it works, unfortunately. That's how it is meant to work though, the Franchise champ title is BS and he's got it at 160 anyway.

Yildrim would probably take the money if he's guaranteed a shot at the winner but what about the guy at #2? When is he gonna get his shot?

Canelo should go fight Charlo, as soon as Charlo became his mandatory they invented this Franchise champ crap
