Comments Thread For: Braekhus: Women's Boxing In An Amazing Place Now, Will Be Just Fine Without Me

Cecilia Braekhus was one win away from the biggest fight of her historic career. There now stands a strong chance of her never again stepping foot in the ring. The longest-reigning champion in women's boxing history saw her 11-year welterweight title reign come to a stunning halt after losing a 10-round majority decision to Jessica McCaskill (9-2, 3KOs). The occasion took place Saturday evening in downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma, serving as the first female bout to headline on DAZN-USA which has remained firmly entrenched on the evolution of a side of the sport that for too long had been regarded as a sideshow attraction and undercard filler.

I love Braekhus but I picked her to lose. I felt McCaskill was robbed in her last fight and was going to be too hungry and to determined. I hope Braekhus has a rematch.

Was she better than Lucia Rijker or Ann Wolfe?

I don't know if that claim can be made with any certainty.

Braekhus looked a bit old and I've certainly seen her look fitter and faster before. She looked out of it in the first part of the fight. She wasn't prepared properly for McCaskill's style. Nevertheless, what a classy woman. She deserved the title of first lady of boxing and she carried it with a grace that you don't see in champions anymore.

She has more titles hanging on her wall than any of us. She's a special woman to say the least

No way at all to say if she was P4P better but in terms of accomplishments she's had the benefit of arriving during the time period when the women's sport was finally receiving recognition from the major sanctioning orgs. If I had to guess I'd say Rijker and Wolfe wil go down as legendary pioneers of the female sport, but Braekhus as it's first ATG.

100% on point comment. Agree with everything you say regarding the fight and Braekhus' legacy.

ATG is measured by fighting ability. Whenever historians look back at women's boxing it would be hard to ignore Wolfe or especially Rijker in that area.

Braekhus certainly will have more baubles and longevity, though.
