That is precisely a reason. But still, for some of the people, it is an insult when somebody calls them russian instead of their actual place of birth. This is especially true for western ukrainians. They have beef with russians for like last 400 years.
yeah i know we i've ran into that same problem myself ...trust me never never call a cuban a mexican
I thought that any competative person, no matter what his country of origin would like to be number 1 in his sport, right?
well yeah but you gotta understand the appeal of being the only american champ and wanting to maybe hold onto the title the easy way to secure more paydays. if youre the only american champ youre always gonna command significantly more money than any other top US fighter.
the soviets holding all the titles is a good thing because of business and economic reasons. any matchup of the four champs will be profitable to any of them to the point where itd be impossible to turn down. they cant get anywhere near as much money defending titles as they now can unifying against each other, most likely in europe.
lord knows the eastern european and russian audience will pay to see valuev fight a bunch of bums imagine if he were fighting maskaev, lyakovich, klitschko? has there ever been a heavyweight title fight in moscow?
That is precisely a reason. But still, for some of the people, it is an insult when somebody calls them russian instead of their actual place of birth. This is especially true for western ukrainians. They have beef with russians for like last 400 years.
It is not really an insult, its just disrespectful.
I have my customs, my culture, my religion which is different from that of a Russian or an American or an Italian. So being called something else besides who I am is disrespectful.
Not even that. It makes the one calling you ____(fill in the blank) look like an uneducated person.
For speeding up conversation saying "Slavs" would be much more appropriate.
Because all of the title holders share slavic roots.
What you call me doesnt change who I am It's you that looks bad by getting it all wrong *by you I mean not you personaly.
yea too bad there is only one russian holding a title.
then Americans wonder why some people dislike them (not me, I think America is great, but it has its problems like everyone else).
Stop categorizing people as white, black, russian and chinese.
There are Nigerians and Ethiopians. Russians and Ukrainians. Japanese and Chinese.
Respect people for who they are and where they come from.
Not my point:
My point, like I stated before, is that even though the "Russians" have all the titles now, they will make sure that their next fight will be against the person that has what they think is their title; having a fellow Russian holding a title, sharing the spotlight, it makes them want it more.
It has nothing to do with Ethnic background as it has more to do with, in my opinion, the attitude certain cultures/countries have.
The fact is, Americans and Russians seem to be a lot more competitive and have a "I am the ****/best" type of attitude, much more than other countries at this point in history.
Why else do you think the Cold War happened
This is why the French hated Lance Armstrong; it was more his attitude to have to win and never except placing in second.
I heard it all through the years he was racing, fellow competitors in the sport didn't understand his ego to win and thinking that anything other than 1st place is FAILURE.
Just like the Russians in the Olympics: ex: when the girl gymnasts placed 2nd to the American girl team that one year the Russians were pissed, and some took of there silver medal.
Every time there is a Slavic name in the thread title more then half the time its wrong
Its funny, but I have never seen a person on this board to spell Lyachovich right.
Good thing, its only a half of his last name.
Secod half is even harder to spell.
That is why a lot of entertainers tend to change their name if it is to hard to say, making it easier/appealing to say, so that the public remembers them.
Ever listen to a Doctor speaking in medical vocabulary to another Doctor, only for him to turn around to you and say, "Your heart has to be checked"
