Is it really worth buying a PPV in boxing?

This household have bought every big fight on PPV ever since I can remember.

And we all know when we buy a PPV, we're essentially only buying one fight
and that is the main card.

I don't watch UFC, but I heard Dana White saying that in boxing
promoters only focus on the main card and most of the money go
in the main card.

Do you think it's high time not to buy PPVs unless at least
3 main cards are being sold?

During this lockdown scenario it ain’t worth it for sure when the likes of Whyte v Povetkin are headlining.

I understand Whyte’s PPV’s usually have decent undercards and that’s why they do well, but this malarkey in Matcheoom’s backyard is a step too far imo so defo wouldn’t buy this time.

MMA is better about having better undercard fights on paper than boxing.

By that I mean they'll typically have more higher ranked guys and/or exciting guys who aren't top fighters, but typically put on good fights, on the undercard.

Of course what you see on paper doesn't always translate to the fight. Fights that look good on paper can be boring, and fights that no one cares about can be great fights.

One more factor is that MMA fights are shorter, so horrible fights that go the distance end quicker in MMA. A boring 10 round boxing bout is 30 mins of boring ring action plus 9 minutes of between rounds time. A boring 3 round MMA fight is 15 mins of boring ring action, with 2 mins of between rounds time.
(I used 3 and 10 rounds because those are the max rounds for non-title fights. Title fight of 5 and 12 rounds respectively still result in shorter MMA fights that go the distance).

Also because of that you get more scheduled fights on an MMA card too. More fights is more **** for the buck.

I watched the Matchroom "Fight Camp" show last weekend, and I will watch the second one tonight. Last week's card had some good matchups, and tonight's main event has a fighter I really like (Chris Billam-Smith). This week's card overall has pretty poor matchups. I have not looked at next week's yet. However, I know that the final card (in 2 weeks) is the Whyte-Povetkin one, and that is a PPV in the UK. I will watch the 3 on Sky Sports, but I will not pay for the PPV card! Tis a shame because I will miss the Katie Taylor fight live, but Dillian Whyte is not a PPV fighter in the UK! In the past Eddie Hearns could afford to bill him as such, but no doubt in my mind they will lose quite heavily on this show. We are all itching for top quality Boxing to return, but Hearns must be paying Whyte and Povetkin pre-corona money to have put this on PPV. Madness.
