Hard to say. Theres so many 1v1 combat sports out there as well - MMA, muay thai, kickboxing, freestyle, greco roman, folkstyle, judo, BJJ, kyokushin, lethwei, bareknuckle etc. Boxing is hands down the worst for long term brain damage out of all of them though.
Hockey is pretty crazy because of the season schedule, in the NHL its like 82 regular season games iirc, and its a high skilled sport with big hits and fights. American football has some huge monsters and big hits. As does rugby, and rugby league especially is just a relentless game that has hundreds of tackles made over 80 mins. And none of these sports have weight classes. You could be a Canelo sized dude getting into it with a Fury sized dude.Comment

I’ve been boxing for a good 20 years, though not significantly as much like before. The grind gets so much harder, the desire, almost completely drains out after 45 even for hobbyists like me. I rarely spar HARD like I used to, I just can’t, and I’m not interested in getting murked by the youngies in the gym. I gotta be tip top for daily activities and not walking around with an injury since I carry heavy canvas spools to begin with.
I’ll say the hardest sports imho come boxing, nfl, rugby, and swimming. I’d say swimming is the most exhausting. Man when I 17 I had to swim for my life against a tide for 30min knowing sharks lurked. It Is the most unpleasant feeling one can imagine but also the reason Olympic swimming is my favorite event. My adrenaline gets pumping every time I watch.
Brutal contact sports like NFL, Rugby, all athletes know of the consequences and sacrifices they must endure to sustain the job. Types of injuries not just affect the performance but the longevity of being a pro. It’s all a business and you can get sacked if you don’t fulfill the obligations you signed up for.
And then of course boxing. Man, it’s the most ruthless. it’s not even about how “dangerous” it is, that’s all subjective. If you’re a natural born fighter it means you were born to go against the toughest intestinal fortitude. Loma vs Salido is a good example of fighters with true grit. Lomachenko is a wizard, but I don’t think he’s a natural born fighter. His father groomed him from a ballerina with athletics so his nuclear athleticism gives him a huge edge, but in a dirty fight, There are just guys that FIGHT. These are the guys you have to worry about in the ring imho, and those types are sacrificing their own health just to dog you themselves.
From my personal experience and most, I’d say, you gotta be able to take the most wicked body shots throughout your boxing experience. It’ll determine if you belong in the ring or not.
Mayweather and Ward were complete fighters, a joy to watch. Now it’s Canelo. In all honesty, I always loved Ward’s style to bull rush in close quarters. I love that shet! I always did that in sparring. Gets dudes mad and let’s them know you ain’t playing too. Man if you spar you know exactly what I’m taking about. Sometimes you gotta be dirty man. No shame in that. Hitting the nuts doe I’m not widdit. That’s just wrong, but accidents happen.Comment

I think is up there along with any full contact sport like Muay Thai, kickboxing or MMA but boxing is a full 12 rounds which is nuts, also, I think is really interesting how Henry Cejudo said that after winning Olympic Gold he wanted to make the US Olympic Team but he realized that it wasn't a realistic goal and he decided to beat the MMA goat as well as becoming a two division UFC champion instead.Comment

If a boxer breaks his leg does he have to continue on? WTF use some logic here. You act like boxing is the only sport of broken bones and blood, it's not.Comment

Absolutely, you’re training your body to peak human physical form for maximum mortal combat and to deliver high end violent attacks!
One fight in boxing could end your life!
One punch in boxing could end your career!
Boxing Training camps are well known to be brutal and sometimes more punishing than the fights itself which could cause career ending injuries!
I’ve trained with amateur boxers and their training is crazy asf, now imagine the prospect, contender, and champion levels of training!Comment

A case can be made for MMA now that the sport has evolved into a somewhat uniform fighting style. Its much like Boxing now, they have grapplers and strikers we have Boxers and punchers. Some do both.
In the beginning you could come in with little training and get really far if you avoided wrestlers. Nowadays you have to have years of jiu jitsu or you won't last 30 seconds. Plus theres a lot of competition and there's not a very good process to go from amateur to pro.
But yes it's one of the two that are the toughest sports in the world.Comment

You used a poor comparison to begin with.
Fighters aren’t allowed to quit and get pushed beyond their limits in tough fights.
You can’t coast in boxing and tap out unlike other sports
And they dealing with the stress of preparing for a killer who been training to knock their azz out for 2 to 3 monthsComment

They have to prepare for even more different situations than boxersComment
