And Christy Martin wasn't that good! Women's boxing is getting better, but it just hasn't evolve that much yet! That's why Clarissa Shields quick road to a title shouldn't be compared to men. Big fish in a shallow pool!

I'm surprised that people are surprised.
It's not great, but that's the sport we all follow. It's not the first mismatch and it won't be the last. Almost every fight is mismatched to some extent - that's what matchmaking is about. Pick someone you're confident you can beat - hopefully with some degree of credibility.
You can kid yourselves that you're worried for her safety, but if she'd gone multiple rounds exchanging blows to the head then you wouldn't think twice.
Adkins will be fine. If you offered me $10k to take 7 punches I'd probably take it. She got paid and Golden Boy got embarrassed.
The disrepute sits in exactly the right place. Golden Boy failed to make a competitive fight - that's what people are really peeved about.

These are the fights you take early in your career, that are hopefully not televised. This fight was televised, meaning people actually got to watch this ****. They got to watch the no.1 ranked P4P women's fighter knockout a soccer mom.
Estrada should also not be absolved from criticism. She took this fight knowing full well her opponent didn't belong in the ring with her.
You will never see the UFC put on a mismatch like this. It's part of the reason they have been dominating boxing thus far.

1. Estrada's original opponent withdrew from the fight. Goldenboy got a replacement. Should Estrada say that she will not take the $75K she has been contracted for because people think that the opponent she got wasn't good enough. Most fighters I know in any martial sports would say thank you very much for a easy payday. Unlike your high standards, fighters only get paid when they fight so they will take easy fights all day long.
2. UFC never putting on mismatches? 3-4 weeks ago I saw someone being washed out in 30 seconds in a woman's fight. Was this in anyway different other than the number of seconds it took to end the fight.

But I don't buy the outrage over Adkins' health. She got 10 Grand for taking 7 punches - she's fine. No-one is outraged over Egg and Cheese taking 12 rounds of head shots tonight. That's unarguably more dangerous.
Derision is deserved for Golden Boy and anyone who set that fight up because they're trying to con boxing fans. Don't buy it.

They went straight for the 42 year old soccer mom with 5 professional fights, all against opponents without winning records, no amateur experience, and thought it was acceptable to put her up against the no.1 P4P fighter in the world. Nothing will ever top this embarrassment.
Also, that UFC fight you're referring to was against a ranked opponent.
For me, it's not even about the safety of the fighter. It's what it does to the sport. Fights like this should never be sanctioned.

"I looked at her record. Five knockouts and five wins in five fights. ('eye test') The WBC had approved her as the opponent for one of its title fights. And even if a fighter hasn't beaten a quality opponent, if they've knocked out everyone they've fought ('eye test') , they might be able to fight. What can I say?"
The bottom line is, Adkins' level of opposition was not representative of someone deserving of that fight.
A few of us keep telling people, you can look like a beast sparking nobodies. Doesn't mean you deserve to face the top tier.
If they had done an "eye test" they would've seen a 42 year old woman who doesnt know what she's doing in a ring. Obviously, that woman doesn't look like a beat even against shxtty competition.

2. So now do you decide what an embarrassment is? Is every first round knockout and embarrassment? Was Wilder's fights against Stiverne, Breazedale, others an embarrassment simply because it was the first round.
3. The UFC fighter had a ranking. Wow!. Atkins had a bauble from one of the ranking bodies. Does that outweigh the UFC ranking or not? Female martial arts continues to have much less depth than their male combatants. It is likely to improve over time but do not tell me a UFC knockout in 30 seconds is SOO much better than a boxing knockout in 7 seconds. I mean those additional 23 seconds add so much validity to the contest.
