This quote was the only good thing to come out of this story.

The rest were qualified adults, who wanted to make money and who were prepared to do what it takes to get that money. This moaning and false shock at what happens in boxing everyday. It is simply that Atkins didn't hold up her part of the bargain which was simply to hold up her hands.

Something like that yeah but there's speculation they are separated. Maybe he knowingly fed her to the wolves for spite?

Honestly I don't care about this story too much anymore. I was much more shocked and touched by the story about the same promoter who tried to put a special needs man who wanted to be a fighter in with a club fighter. Thankfully it had a somewhat happy ending instead of a tragic one.

That is a far more unforgivable act than a mismatch where the victim should have at least known to keep her hands up. I mean at least she was mentally capable of consenting to fight and knowing what she was getting into. By the way she lurched out of her corner reluctantly you could tell she watched the tape on Estrada and knew she was gonna get stomped.

This type of farce could only set women's boxing back for another 30 years. That bout was both shameful and de****able. No wonder boxing is no longer a mainstream sport.

                Dear NSB:

This quote, right here, is the exact reason why resume matters. And I hope you listen.

"I looked at her record. Five knockouts and five wins in five fights. ('eye test') The WBC had approved her as the opponent for one of its title fights. And even if a fighter hasn't beaten a quality opponent, if they've knocked out everyone they've fought ('eye test') , they might be able to fight. What can I say?"

The bottom line is, Adkins' level of opposition was not representative of someone deserving of that fight.

A few of us keep telling people, you can look like a beast sparking nobodies. Doesn't mean you deserve to face the top tier.

The CSAC should know better and not advise it. With all the up and coming female contenders that would like a shot, it's hard to imagine Diaz would reach out to Carden. Unless GB's Diaz had the wool pulled over his eyes or there is some backroom dealing and paybacks going on. I just give GB's matchmaker more credit than that.

Yeah this was bad. When someone with a KO percentage of 40 - 50% looks like Mike Tyson against a very over matched opponent then there is something wrong. Bad match up and should never of happened.

I heard about this on the BBC podcast and I think Mike Costello has a strong view on what boxing is to him and can be overly critical on things that aren't that, but when I watched it I thought he was absolutely 100% justified in his anger at this fight. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It was disgusting. Like sending a village cricketer out to face a 90mph bowler. Dangerous and offensive to the sport.
