Yeah Povetkin is a risk when you are a B minus Level Heavyweight.

This is the optics problem, Hearn keeps saying he is A level but when he fights past prime guys like Povetkin he talks about them being tough challenges? Which is it?

Did anyone think AJ was going to lose to Povetkin? Why is it we think Povetkin has a shot if Whyte is on AJ’s level? Why isn’t Whyte fighting better competition?

Whyte was losing to Chisora (again) before the KO in the rematch and Povetkin definitely beats Chisora. It's crazy how Povetkin gets underrated these days but whatever. Boxing fans are dumb.

That’s your assessment and you’re entitled to that view.

Personally I think that, even if we’re a heck of a long way off from the quality of the 60s and 90s, the HW division looks MUCH better than it has done for the past 20 years or so.

Watching the Klitschkos batter an endless series of mediocre fighters was incredibly tedious compared to what we have now.

Now we have fighters with real skill and a clash of personalities fighting out the top three.

We have some pretty mediocre fighters fighting out the next 10 or so places but there are some solid fighters in there along with some exciting young heavyweights who we are going to tested soon, like Ajakba and Dubois.

It’s not incredible but, unlike recent years, it’s at least watchable

Fury and Wilder both said that they thought Povetkin would beat AJ. It’s easy to be a revisionist with hindsight.

Plus, as mentioned above, Povetkin is ranked 5th by boxrec. Whyte can’t get a fight with the top 3 and he would get trashed if he was fighting Usyk as well. So who would you prefer to see him fight?

It’s hardly Whyte’s fault if there isn’t better competition out there available for him to fight.

Only Joshua and Tyson Fury are A level guys at hw, nobody else, right now.

So who should he fight? The top 10 other than Joshua, Fury and Wilder aren't exactly killers. Povetkin is probably the best out of a terrible bunch. He doesn't really have choice until his mando comes to light.
It's sad to say but it's probably the toughest fight he can get right now, nobody else comes to mind...

Hunter is at least on a Ruiz level and Povetkin was not given a win there when he should have been , those who say Povetkin is not dangerous simply haven’t been watching boxing long enough. This will be a nail biter for most of the fight . Whoever connects solidly after a few rounds most likely wins in this style clash .

Whyte took that on two weeks notice and was his heaviest as a fill in , It was just another keep busy fight . Povetkin vs Hunter was a huge undercard and the co main event fight for the Joshua rematch with Ruiz, big difference. Both Povetkin and Whyte are just about equal here with Whyte being the slight favorite I would guess because he’s a bit fresher .

Eight years in heavyweight standards is not a big deal as is who absorbed more punishment . A.Js knockout of Povetkin would be more of a factor then a number here . Whyte had two wars with Chisora but flush stoppages effect fighters more and that are more recent ,it’s this factor I give Whyte a edge to take this being another big unit with power .
