Comments Thread For: Benavidez: Understandable To Think Taking A Paycut Isn't Fair... If I Have To, I Will

Blessed with the opportunity to return to action, David Benavidez can't envision many reasons that would keep him out of the ring any longer than has already been the case. Not even having to fight for less money.

The pandemic is unfair, and some people have lost alot more than some money. What are these guys on?

I think Benavidez is being reasonable. Spoken like a true champion. It's not all about the money staying relevant and active will help build his name during all this. Then money will come later down the line once all this is over.

So we have a young undefeated champion at 168 who is willing to take a pay cut. Why didn't Golden Boy come calling him for that Sept main event??? I'm sure he'd gladly scrap this irrelevant August fight for a meaningful matchup with the face of boxing.

Makes perfect sense! Mexican vs Mexican American for the Sept date which means dazn would likely get more people to sign up to watch that fight than they would for a Ryder or Smith or anyone else being mentioned. If he's training for August, he's already in shape so that Saunders excuse is out the window, and he'd take low money so the money excuse is out the window.

Should have zero excuses. Win win situation...

If the television networks, online streaming services and boxing promoters have to take a pay cut due to this global pandemic, that we are are currently facing, then I think that it is only fitting that the fighters should take one as well.

Its obvious why they didn't do that, why have Canelo fight Benevidez now making peanuts without fans when they can do it later on as a mega event. Plus if Benevidez couldn't even get Plants punk ass to fight him next (both said they wanted it next but Plant is bluffing & PBC don't want to cannabalze 1 of them) its ludicrous to think Pbc will let him go to Dazn on the cheap without fans & barely any negotiations.(they want to maximize anyone vs canelos earnings as they know what they are risking) Pbc fighters aren't in charge of their own careers anyways which is why Plant v Benevidez isn't next & aside from Charlo vs Deryev they will surely have their champs fighting tba next. Just because Benevidez says he'll take a paycut doesn't mean his handlers agree to one vs Canelo of all ppl.

Benevidez should be a cinco de mayo fight with a packed house of tix costing over 2k each.(& pBC knows it which is why they sure as sht wouldn't let him fight Canelo now)
