Comments Thread For: Charlo: Derevyanchenko Didn't Win Golovkin Fight; Made It Closer Than Expected

Jermall Charlo commended Sergiy Derevyanchenko for making his last middleweight title fight more competitive than many might've expected. Charlo definitely doesn't think Derevyanchenko did enough to upset Gennadiy Golovkin, though. The unbeaten WBC middleweight champion believes Derevyanchenko deservedly is coming off a loss entering their 12-round, 160-pound championship match September 26 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.

I had Derevyanchenko beating Golovkin. I'm going to watch it again.

I agree but I do think Derevyanchenko deserves a rematch at some point. Plus, the rumor was that GGG was very sick on fight week and went through with the fight anyways.

One thing I noticed more on the rematch was that Golovkin did a good job of tucking and blocking more of Sergeis bodywork than I'd thought originally. Still a close fight whichever way you cut it though. I saw it a win for GGG on my first viewing too though, so I can't be sure I ain't just getting reinforcement bias.

Derevyanchenko mostly went for the body, and the body punches are not that "telling", sometimes...

(yesterday I re-watched Errol Spence Jr v Shawn Porter... Spence landed 184 power punches, of which 112 were to the body -- hence, a judge had Porter winning by 115-112)...

I had it 114-113 GGG. 6 rounds each with the knockdown.

Yeah a rematch is warranted. I'm pretty sure in the ring Golovkin said the fight was a draw during an interview with himself and Derevyanchenko.
