A fighter like Matthysse would have benefited a lot from a good trainer like Robert Garcia. It always annoyed me how he had a pretty much nonexistent jab. Garcia would have taught him how to jab his way in to set up his big power shots better. His corner ******.

Honestly I thought he had a decent jab, the problem was that he was small for a 140 guy and that he didn’t know how to fight out of the clinch or keep fights on the inside as the smaller man!

People remember him for being dismantled by Pacquiao but he was past it and not fighting at his natural weight class!

Maidana would have stopped him if they had fought. Matthysse took a lot of damage from guys like Provodnikov, Postol, Danny, even small old Pacquiao, imagine what would 30 old Maidana do to him.

Well all those guys are/were world champions and two of them were considered the top 2 best in their division at their peak and the other was a dangerous fighter who was ducked by a few an got shafted by the judges in some fights!

We’ll never know if Maidana would KO him and it depends, would Pre-Robert Garcia trained Maidana beat Matthysse at 140? Not sure about that, now Maidana trained by Robert Garcia was different!

I agree with everyone that Lucas should’ve dropped his old team after he lost to Judah or Danny an got with Robert who actually wanted to train Lucas!

Robert would’ve had him rolling punches and then firing back combos to the body all night and then tag the chin, dude already was heavy handed just needed need cover ups for his defensive flaws and size disadvantages!

One of my favorite fighters....He really was undersized for the weight. Had the pleasure of meeting and taking a pic with him here at fantasy springs just before the garcia fight. Surprised me how small he was.Im not a giant by any means,5'11" 160'lbs, but I dwarfed his arse. Great guy and one of the most exciting puncher/boxers of the last decade...his fights with garcia,zorrita,molina,olusegun,provodnikov were memorable but when he sent Peterson into another dimension,shiet was unbelievable! Seemed like after the orbital bone fracture/issues he became a little more passive and affected his fight mentality...but viva La Maquina!

I like Lucas as warrior, but I always felt like he was a little overrated. Makes me laugh when I remember he was seen as top 140 guys before Postol stopped him.

I wanted to see it myself and I'm sure they knew they coulda made a ton of money but I guess their respect for each other superceded that.

They shoulda fought at 140. Maidana was unpolished until he linked up with Garcia.
Lucas was no good at 147 so I don't think it would have been that great of a fight. Or maybe I should say Lucas wasnt the same after those wars with Ruslan & Molina. That eye injury with Postol was the icing on the cake for me.

He looked like the next big thing after that but then Danny Garcia happened and all went downhill for him after that. That Provodnikov fight was brutal and imo both fighters were shot after that

btw, I can't believe he wasn't crowned champ after destroying Peterson, who was champion, due to some bs stipulations in the contract

boxing is full of bs at times, how can you be allowed to remain the champ after getting KTFO?!
