Exactly. There's more money in him getting hammered by Davis than there is getting embarrassed by Rigo. He has no shot of beating either guy so might as well go for the guy you'll get the most money and the least backlash for losing to.

good point. Money is definitely a factor but I also think that Haymon is a factor. He was also protective of Santa Cruz as he figured he could milk him due to the Mexican fan base. Haymon probably realizes he's taken santa cruz as far as he can go in terms of popularity & they really do think that Tank can become a ppv star. That probably played a role in this fight happening too.

back when he was with gb, they tried to make the fight. St+ bought out his contract. mares, quigg, frampton ran from Rigondeaux too. He was the Champ, unified and still everyone was afraid. Wasn't about money.
