Comments Thread For: De La Hoya: Mayweather Sr. is The Only Trainer I Want To Work With

If Oscar De La Hoya ever decides to make a full-fledged ring return, he'll make sure that his corner includes a familiar face: his former trainer, Floyd Mayweather Sr. "The only person that comes to mind [to train me], the only person that I would ask humbly is Floyd Mayweather Sr.," De La Hoya, the 47-year-old head Golden Boy Promotions, said on the recent SI Boxing Podcast.

Don't do it. As much as I would love to see it and enjoy you fight the risk is too much. Enjoy your money, family and women.

Needs all the help he can get to squeeze back into those fishnets!

He'll look like he's being minced if he tried now!

If the experienced people around him witness day day out a decline in speed, lack of residual stamina and lack of mobility and powers of recovery through computer data will they tell him he's potentially putting himself in danger and advise him against his goals ? Of course you can get your body in good condition in your 40s and 50s but condition and a cosmetic look is never going to allow you to compete with competent young athletes let alone elite young men and women in their prime , I'll say it again how many Olympic track champions over their very 30s ( and they are at the longer distances where residual stamina is built up from a very early age) very very bad idea oscar unless of course you hand pick a body but then what do you prove with that ? Leave it to history or do the fitness side and enjoy good health ..

It's his shot resistance that'll be most affected.

Hi I am a former professional boxer, I was thinking about going for hike today.

Rest of the world: please don't do it, oh just don't do it man 'You will embarrass yourself' stay inside and lock your door.
I hear what your saying be free to Persue your ambition but you've just answered the question , you were a former pro , would you comeback and try to box at the highest level you boxed at ? Not about money or ego but would you fight a top class youngster with say 20 fights .. be honest now ..?

So, by saying the only boxing trainer he'd work with is Mayweather Sr., he's effectively ruling out a fight with Floyd? That's where I thought this "comeback" chatter was going until I read these comments.
